I think, not sure, that Geodon must effect histamine receptors. I still have the problem of not being able to be awaken if needed, even on just 40mg.
Trileptal is awesome and Geodon is to help with depression - which it does. I tried Abilify, but gained weight on 5mg.
My doc mentioned weaning from Geodon to low dose Lamictal for depression. Right now I'm pretty stubborn about trying low dose Lamictal for depression and dropping Geodon, but it might work.
I could never go higher than 100mg of Lamictal. It never gave me stability, but was great for depression.
The Trileptal is working. Very stable now, but can't take ADs.

Phillipa, not sure. I tend to be more BPII. Antidepressants hurt my bladder and they also make me hypomanic on their own. I would say I have never been full blown manic like my sister or father. So, I have been diagnosed BPII and also BP NOS?

Why stop the geodon for lamictal? I thought you were doing very well on 80mg of geodon and the addition of the trileptal really helped. Perhaps I've misunderstood. Why did you cut back to 40mg of geodon?

My doc really wants me on the lowest dose that works and in the past 40mg works great, it just makes it impossible to be awaken and stay awake. I've had 2 bad experiences in the middle of the night were I could not be woken up! Scary for my husband.

I agree, Phillipa, but no two docs have agreed on what type. It can be frustrating as it effects how they go about treatment.
I remember when I was young I could take antidepressants without them hurting my bladder, and I easily took Zoloft and Trazadone, great combo for me. I didn't have depression and slept great. It's just gotten more complicated as I've gotten older because I can't just pop an antidepressant - they all cause painful urinary problems, and SNRIs cause gastro problems. So I've had to turn to low dose AAPs and certain lower doses of anti-seizure meds.
I've been diagnosed with MDD with anxiety, ADD, Bipolar II, Bipolar NOS (whatever that means) etc. all depends on the doc. But because of my disastrous childhood, I've always had terrible anxiety. I have to keep a cap on that, which Trileptal and Klonopin take care of. Addressing the depression without weight gain has been hard. My maternal side of family has terrible anxiety & some depression, my father was the victim of terrible childhood abuse, which I think effected him mentally and flipped a switch in his brain.
Geodon worked well for a couple years, but turned on me with weight gain. My current doc really wants me on my July dose of 40mg and 600-750mg of Trileptal.
Right now, at least I know Trileptal works!

When do you take your geodon? Was it ever activating for you?
I find Lamictal pretty activating...more in combination with my celexa. In fact in makes it hard for me to sleep. Perhaps that is helpful to you. :)
