generic zyprexa complaint

Posted by B2chica on September 28, 2012, at 11:06:32

so i verged on psychotic break (my pdoc said) on wed.

i've been struggling (for once not with depression) i guess if there was any doubt before if i was bipolar this episode explains it. am not feeling down but very aggitated, forced drive, starting projects, then also very tired, apathy, dont even want to work. high anxiety. started seeing more visual illusions, higher anxiety, paranoia at work (EVeryone was staring at me, thinking bad things about me) started seeing -peripherally- people that were trying to give me messages. had to leave work.
txt pdoc twice, he called told me to take extra perphenazine.
but get this he said that he thought this was a personality disorder? so i became a little combative and told him if it was they why should i take medication, cant i just 'fix myself'. and what about the messages? he said we needed to stop a psychotic break.

so WTF?
anyway i was back at 10mg of generic zyprexa which i think it caused some type of dopamine surge? so i went back down to 5 and upped perphenazine by taking a 2mg at 2:00 (worst part of day for me).

two days ago. doing slightly better today.
minimal visuals, still some paranoia, no messages.

But i've NEVER had this issue with zyprexa before. so this HAS to be because of the generic. maybe its how its released?
idk.

but i'm going to call other pharmacies to see if i can get a different brand of generic. i am currently taking the Teva brand (of which i only have 2 left...)

what the hell do i do next if this doesnt work?
i guess im actually thankful its not a depressive episode. it seems like i can tolerate these a little better.

b2c.

First I'm sorry. But why do you feel it's the generic zyprexa? I didn't know you were bipolar. Kind of fits though? You seem to have good times and then the spending and other stuff. Could it be mixed episodes. You getting really angry could not saying it is part of the anger that comes with some that do have bipolar. If personality disorder which type did he think? Have you had any triggers lately? Think of you Phillipa

my dx has gone back and forth so many times they stopped trying to name it.
goes between agitated depression, psychotic depression and bipolar (mixed).

i feel its generic because when i've been on name brand (even lately) it helps. and i get back to feeling normal. when i'm NOT on brand h*ll brakes loose.

yes the anger was noted mixed episode thats' why pdoc originally upped zyprexa to 10 (had sample from him took it fine) then went to generic didnt work, spending, so went down to 5. ok then down, went back up to 10 in generic, went nutso, back to 5 and upped perphenazine.

i'm more with reality but still feelings of paranoia, that people will know what i'm thinking so they try to say what i'm saying in my head. They want me out of here. my visual illusions much better today. only slight. NOTHING like they have been. and reduced from anger to high anxiety. but still really irritable.

i have had triggers lately. but took them in stride thought would be ok.

********************
and ya i'm curious what personality disorder he think i have too. he didnt say.
hell i know and everyone who knows me knows i'm neurotic to the core so that wouldnt suprise me at all.
but i get it honestly, have dad with ocd personality and mother borderline. so go figure.

I really admire how well you are dealing with some really tough issues. I'm afraid I haven't been following all your posts, but I am wondering whether you have a therapist. Psychodynamic therapy which is designed to help you not to dysregulate so much under stress, and to also help you feel more whole and integrated as a person, would be a vital part of treatment ( in addition to meds, which are of course also vital). Therapy with the right person would offer the chance of long- term growth, and of getting to a point where the extreme emotional swings were much milder. You may already be doing this, and I just am unaware of it.

This does sound like a pretty extreme situation where it might be helpful to see her once or twice.

>very aggitated, forced drive, starting projects, then also very tired, apathy, dont even want to work. high anxiety. started seeing more visual illusions, higher anxiety, paranoia

Sounds like a classic mixed mood episode with psychotic features.

>he said that he thought this was a personality disorder?

Not a chance.

>so WTF?

Yeah, wtf, why aren't you on a mood stabilizer?

>zyprexa which i think it caused some type of dopamine surge?

I doubt it. Zyprexa downregulates dopamine.

>this HAS to be because of the generic. maybe its how its released?

there is no difference between Zyprexa and the generic, just the name.

>what the hell do i do next if this doesnt work?

Nor Zyprexa or the generic are going to help you with your mood swings. Only a mood stabilizer is going to help.

Zyprexa is a moodstabilizer and and AP.

I gave up on therapy a long time ago. Save the money for meds! Maybe you can afford it better. Get therapy from freinds and family. Your manicness might have a little to do with your stress about job. Maybe perphenazine is a better way to go, no weight gain, generic, cut pills, 16mg is same price as the smaller doses. If you try all the generics with no help, maybe you can get brand with assistance from the pill companies. Wish I could give you some of my brand zyprexa I have in closet, that I'm not using, I have tons of free samples. I'm taking the generic because its fresher, and I want to see if it works. Which I'm pretty sure its about the same for me. There does seem to be a very mild difference to me. Maybe just maybe the Aurobindo (sandos) generic is a little more like brand. I think perphenazine is the way to go for you at a higher dose.

Zyprexa is not a mood stabilizer. It is an antipsychotic.

B2c, i'm sorry you are going through this. Has the Pristiq dose been lowered yet? I think a mood stabilizer in addition to zyprexa is a good idea if on an snri. Therapy can help with the extraordinary pressures you are under, too, though I can understand it may be difficult to reengage after some years off. I also hear you about having difficulty affording it, but maybe you can find a way. I find therapy relieves so much stress and angst as i deal with my chronic conditions. Family and friends cannot accomplish the same. I'm wishing you the best on your way.

Americans seem to have a bit of an obsession with generic drugs......they have to meet FDA biequivelence standards before they can be marketed.... the pills might not be such pretty colours, but they work just the same in 99% of cases

i'm the 1%
over a period of 10 years off and on brand zyprexa has always...ALWAYS worked.
now its not? to fishy.

anyway i am sensitive to generics, this is not the first i have had trouble with.

anyway it doesnt matter. something is not working.
i agree with zyprexa i too think upping perphenazine can help.

but now pdoc wants me to go into outpatient hospital... :(
