Seroquel vs. Risperdal

Posted by twinch42085 on September 24, 2007, at 16:48:38

Out of all the atypical antipsychotics is seroquel considered the worse? I am currently on 2mg of risperdal but am having to switch to seroquel because the pdoc doesn't have enough samples of risperdal to last for 3 months before my insurance prescription coverage becomes available, which is january 1st of 2008. The last time that I was on seroquel I titrated too quickly. My last pdoc told me to titrate 25mg every 30 minutes until I became sleepy. Odd enough as it sounds I did it anyway and experienced horrible side effects.

thanks : )

Sounds like not even enough time for the med to work how strange. I guess try and see if it works for you? Phillipa

I have been on risperdal for 7 months now and I am switching to seroquel to try it again. The pdoc is looking for an inexpensive mood stabilizer to add on to the 200mg of lamictal that I am taking. We are trying to find inexpensive alternative meds that will help with mania. Wish me luck

thanks : )

Risperdal is approx. 100 times more potent than seroquel. Risperdal is in same class of strength as Haldol.
Risperdal- most potent antipsychotic; zyprexa- mid range; and seroquel weakest antipsychotic

New ones: Geodon and Abilify.

Not sure what u mean by "atypical"...Sorry, too sick to look it up. Good luck, florence

Hi,
May I ask what side effects you experienced on risperdal?
TIA,
Nellie.

I felt completely knocked out and terribly anxious on risperdal..seroquel calms me and helps with my sleep issues..I think risperdal was to strong for me, although a friend of mine does extremely well on risperdal..

risperdal is an evil drug..it ruined my hormones...STAY AWAY from it i'm still trying to resolve issues after being off it for almost 2 years and i have been on organic diet for quite sometime but i feel i need to step it up a notch to address this problem risperdal has done to me...Why are people taking anti-psychotics to go to sleep...there are so many alternatives that don't destroy the brain and have the potential of causing parkinson's...If i knew what i do now when i took risperdal i would have been afraid to even touch the pill with my finger...I was abused by the medical profession for taking a drug that ruined my life...my advice is if you have to go on a drug take something that will not cause any debilitating symptoms to ones health...Anxiety is debilitating but there are many alternative drugs or approaches to consider before one indugles in an anti-psychotic which actually would exacerbate someone once they are off due to the upregulation of fight or flight Norepinephrine to compensate for the loss of dopamine which should not be touched in a delicate system to begin with...

How did it mess with your hormones? And I didn't know it was the strongest atypical antipsychtic comparable to Haldol? Phillipa

I never knew that risperdal was considered to be the strongest antipsychotic either? I was on 4mg and I could tell that it helped with mania, but when I was on seroquel it really kicked my butt, but I guess that was because it is considered to treat insomnia. All I can say is that everyone is different and they respond to medications differently. I need to revanquish some of my dopamine and serotonin. Risperdal has completely shutdown my production units.

thanks : )

here is all the information you are gonna need...
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10190227&dopt=Citation

crazymeds is b*llshit by the way b/c no one goes into long term side effects that drugs cause after you quit them...

sex was the most important thing in life to me now that is gone b/c of risperdal treatment for 3 months yes only 3 months can do it but it is dose dependent so 2mg may or may not effect someone life it did me as i took 4-5 at a short period of time with max dose of zoloft which completey screwed my system and i took it for physical pain in my head that was caused by something physical and misdiagnosed...

masturbation doesn't even feel good anymore since taking this poison...

hypospermatogenesis they refer to is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azoospermia

if you are a woman you will lose your menstrual cycle and not get your period...

everything is related to the hypothalamus and pituitory signalling...dopamine inhibits prolactin and this causes lactation etc...supersensitzing dopamine shrinks the cells of dopamine and can potentially cause TD or NMS..if done right under the pituitory stalk this is bad news for ones sex life as the master gland is overproducing prolactin which kills sex drive reduces testosterone and causes secondary hypogonadism

So not only does one lose their sex drive but their ability to conceive is cut off...Of course when regeneration of the dopamine primarily D2 receptors of the brain takes place this reverses but how long should this all take if one only took the drug for 3 months and 2 years later it still feels like you are on the drug....my current protocol is a life long detox program i have developed with specific organ promoting supplements and organic foods...i feel like all the exercise i did when i was younger is wasted as my dopamine cells have become less dendritic and shrunk from the drug i only took for 3 months...

one's prolactin levels should be under 3 for a good sex drive and the "normal range" established by the medical community is 1-18 typically which is too wide to determine abnormalities in ones system...my current level of prolacin is around 8 on my last blood test...research articles show that during risperdal treatment prolactin levels go above normal in most cases treatment but after treatment they go within normal range but normal is not baseline which is the only "normal" there is unless someone already had a medical condition...so my baseline prolactin could have been 1 and now its 8 but still within normal range and undetected as abnormal on a blood test which is why this cannot be proven either way... just know the one telling the symptoms is always right

It increased prolactin production...caused slight case of "bitch t*ts" and didn't go away after discontinuing the drug...Nipples go in and out like wavering based on dopamine rushes to brain if exercising or or temperature which never happened before...no sex drive at all due to too much prolactin and not enough Testosterone..From horny as hell at 21 to 2 years later and no sex drive at all since day one on the stuff and off it...My T levels are very low for someone my age and i am a very athletic individual and in superb physical shape...Low for any age really...Free Testosterone is related to dopamine and how well it is inhibiting prolactin...Prolactin dramatically reduces free T...Risperdal is worse than Haldol by the way for sex drive...there is a case study on it i need to find the link again...but no case studies are done on side effects that last after the this drug is taken for sex drive...if you can find one i'd like to see it...
