Feels funny to be posting here again. Sometimes I think people get irritated with me (especially them depiteez) because I usually just play games and make stupid comments, but I think I've got a real post here. I hope. It would be my luck if it isn't the right board. (sigh)
Okay. Pdoc appt tomorrow at 11:00 AM MST...
I have tried to absorb as much info as possible in the short time I have been here. I hope I can use some of that info to help pdoc determine what my new med or combination of should be. I am not very prospective that I know what to say or how much I will remember to say when that time comes. I am thinking about addressing the SSRI, SNRI, SDRI, SSNRI, NDRI, and DNSRINDSIRI. But in reality, I don't have a fknclue.
You may or may not recall that I am on Lamictal 400mg because there is a lot to know about a lot of people here (thank g there isn't a test on it.) I am diagnosed BP (so far) but it seems strange that I am WAY more manic than depressed. I often wonder if it could be something else or a combination of some things.
I do have behavioral issues and addictions that don't help matters, but I know there really IS an underlying personality disorder. I think alcohol does depress a lot of my mania. Lamictal worked very well at first, but it feels like it has almost completely pooped out.
Hopefully I won't get completely "cured" because then I wouldn't have as much to babble about...:)
Not sure what else to say. Anyone...?

I don't know much about mood stabilizers, but I read an article recently in some journal saying that lithium is actually the best. I'm not sure how you might feel about that, but it did rate quite highly.
Honestly, Curt, I am only telling you this because I know you're up in the air right now, and I wanted you to know that someone heard you. I hope your appointment goes well.
By the way, what symptoms are you most trying to address? That would help in making any suggestions...

i agree with racer, what symptoms are you most concerned with?
if you mania is really an issue you could even try out some atypical AP's. i felt like i delt with mini mania's mostly and sleep issues, zyprexa really helped with that. the first time i was put on it i actually maintained weight, maybe even lost a couple pounds...well the second time i was put on it i gained about 50 pounds...so i do caution with that.but there's geodon and abilify and others to test out if you wish.
do you feel the lamictal is helping you?
if not maybe another mood stabilizer is better. racer was right in that i think lithium is supposed to be the most reliable but you have to have blood tests with that one to monitor liver function and such.
(but i think you do with depekote and topomax? think, not sure)anyway. if you depression is issue trying an SSRI (or related)is pretty common first step so the pdoc will most likely start with something like that.
anyway, whatever you/doc decide, let us know!
Good luck!b2c.

Hi Curtm,
Neurontin is a anti epileptic med that is used off-label for bipolar disorder-I use it and like it beter than Lamictal and I use Seroquel for my anti psychotic symptoms, Wellbutrin for depression, and I'm not sure why the doctor has me on Abilify. Hope this helps.
