Mirapex dosage and side effects.

Posted by Maxime on February 10, 2006, at 12:16:57

So the specialist that I saw in the hospital wanted me to start off with Prozac and then add Seroquel. The next step was to mirapex.

Has anyone taken this med and what dosage did you start at and what side effect did you experience.

Merci

Maxime

I did use mirapex with lexapro a while back. Its a dopamine drug that did not do anything for my depression, even though I think dopamine IS part of my problem. I had no side effects from it and it did help with the sexual sides of lexapro. If you take it with prozac you will probably see the same result. It seems most dopamine drugs have very limited side effects. Not sure if that is true, but that was my experience with mirapex. I'm sorry I don't remember dosages. I wrote a little blurb on Remedyfind.com about it. You might find more opinions there. I recall a doctor telling me that 2-3 mg was the ceiling dose on it or an effective dose.

Maxime,

Mirapex was too hard for me to take. I never got past the starting dose and only took it for a few days. Too much grogginess. It was good for sleeping the day away!

But on the plus side, it helped with anxiety....

Best of luck

I've never taken Mirapex

Annoyingly my impression is that not very many people seem to react well to it, although some people do

Piribedil seems like a more promising activating DA Agonist

Unfortunatly its not available in any English speaking countries, although it can be ordered from over seas

Thanks. I know my pdoc has no experience in using it, so I wanted to get an idea. I'm sorry it didn't help you. I hope it helps me when the time comes because I am getting deperate.

Thanks Diane. Hmmm, I don't do well on meds that are sedating. I guess I will find out when the time comes. And right I would like to be able to sleep the day away because I am so depressed.

Yeah, I haven't heard of any success stories either. :-(

Maxime,
It may not be sedating for you. my doc's jaw dropped when I told him it was for me.
But then again, he knew nothing about the drug, really...

I think mirapx looks good on paper...just my theory ;)

Hi Maxie

Mirapex's prolactin-lowering effect might be a good thing for you. The concern with Mirapex is that it can cause psychosis in some patients. Close monitoring is important.

I have taken it, I'm sorry I don't remember the dosage, but I know it got pretty high (I'm treatment resistant) so I always require high doses. The only side effect I had was drowsiness, but it only lasted 2 wks (the drowsiness) the very nice thing about mirapex is that it kicks in rather fast and it feels GOOD when it does! I sure hope it works for you cause if it does you're gunna enjoy it, take care Maxime and best wishes!

Dopamine agonists have been studied in only a few trials for depression. Both Mirapex and Requip have shown definite effects.
I haven't been on Mirapex, but have been on Requip(ropinirole) for 2 months with excellent results as add on therapy to Cymbalta and Lamictal. I have had absolutely no sleepiness or fatigue. In fact, it has been activating and motivating, which is why I tried it in the first place. But it also helps my mood per se.
The studies showed that about 1.5 mg was the mean dose in one and about 2.5 mg in the other. I had effects from 1.5 mg, but went up to 3 mg gradually to see if it maxed out further, and I think it was best at this dose.
There was poop out reported, but none so far with me.

I should see if Requip is available in Canada. I really don't need something that is going to be sedating.

Thanks for you information on dosages.

Maxime
