Ritalin dose levels?

Do doctors in the U.S. ever go past 60mg standard realease for adults? Or is 60mg of SR as high as most go?

I would say that it definitely depends on the doctor. I bet there have been doctors that have prescribed 120 mg/day and others that will only go as high as 30 and others will not prescribe it at all.

In my experience, the doctors that are more personable and listen to you and accept your input are more willing to be more experimental and innovative. The ones that have an attitude and do all the talking and discourage your input usually go by the books and arent much of a risk taker. You can usually get a sense of how liberal a doc will be on the first visit.

I am a male, and have noticed more conflict with male doctors. One even told me one time that hes the doctor and hes gonna tell me what meds to take. Nevertheless, that was the last time I saw him. He was a harvard grad, but he was also a jerk. My current doc is a female from another country. She is extremely friendly and basically asks me what I think cuz she knows Im the one that has taken the meds and know how they effect me.

Docs should respect the fact that their patients have input in what treatments to try, the info is available to us to make decisions. Some patients may not know whats best for them. But there are many of us that are successful Lawyers, Engineers, Doctors, that are trying to do everything to feel better and if we feel like trying 60 mg of Ritalin, it should be considered.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I just cant stand arrogant doctors. I had one doc that was like the Doctor from the movie The Island, if youve seen it youll know what I mean.

I live down under, and was started at 10mgs B.I.D IR Methylphenidate. This was increased to 40mgs then 60, to a high of 80mgs, 20mgs Q.I.D.

I usually take less than this, hence why i have over 200 10mg Methylphenidate tabs sitting here.

I guess it depends on the Doc. If you appear needy and seem to be wanting a higher dose, without explaining why, many Docs will be hesistant.

If you explain your progress and how it's going for you, in a colaborative way with the Doc, they may be more inclined to help you, as opposed to a patient who seems to just want higher doses of a Sch 11 med, for non clear reasons.

Cheers

Often you find that an ADHD specialist is better informed about varioables responsxes and will happily have patients who take 15mg per day and others who take 120mg. Many internists would struggle with that dose.
