how long does it take for MAO levels to return

Posted by iforgotmypassword on October 2, 2005, at 18:40:35

i want to try an experiment. i was wondering how long after stopping parnate that MAO levels would go back to normal... i want to start effexor + remeron concomitantly, rapidly increase the doses and see what effects i get.

Sorry I can't answer your question, but I thought the MAO's were supposed to be superior except for dietary restrictions. Fondly, Phillipa

uh oh. is that one of the things that is for sure? so that's not another one of those myths and actually shorter? ugh, i guess that explains why i did it. :( and it was only a week at low-dose that i was on it.

Yup.

10-14 days.

In other words, 2 weeks.

1 week should be enough. I consider Parnate as "semi" reversible.

Parnate is semi-reversible. That is, it is slowly reversible. Like 30 days or so to fully reverse, IIRC. Enough MAO has been produced in about 14 days to make switching to the effexor/remeron combo fairly safe, though. I'd not recommend switching after 1 week, but your risk tolerance may vary.

Superior for some people. But others can't tolerate the food restrictions or the side effects. You have to try it first. Just like every med, everyone responds differently to meds.
