IS RISPIRIDONE ACTIVATING OR SEDATING?

Posted by pretty_paints on January 30, 2005, at 12:07:17

Does anyone know if Rispiridone is activating or sedating? I mean, Seroquel is known to be sedating, Abilify is known to be activating. Just wondered if anyone knew what the case was for Rispiridone.

Thanks a lot :)

I've never been on it myself, but my autistic son was on it last summer.

It seemed to make him very lethargic and drowsy.

I didn't particurlarly like how he responded to it (zombie effect) but he is only 10 years old so it might be different for you.

I'm pretty sure that it is sedating. Fondly, Phillipa

It is very sedating. I was on it in the past and even at a low starting dose of .25 mg it made me sleepy during the dayI eventually ended up taking 4 mgs a day, and I would split it up morning and evening, I was pretty much a walking zombie, but at the time I needed it badly and it helped me with paranoia tremendously. If I were having the symptoms now that I had back then I would take it, but only in the short term because the zombie effect was too much to live with long term. Good Luck if you try it.

My experience was entirely different!

I took a 2 mg by mistake, and i literally bounced around for about 12 hours; and felt extremely anhedonic. The drowsiness only lasted for like 1 hour. About 2 months after that experience I found out I was AD/HD.

maybe this stuff could be used as a diagnostic test hmmm

Hey,

Me too! I went on it in l'hopital and only got up to 2mg. I was completely spazzing out, restlessness, muscles aching and sore, couldn't keep my fingers and toes still... it was a nightmare.

The reason I asked is coz I've just started Abilify and I feel a little bit similar to how I did on Risperidone. I know that Abilify is thought to be activating, so I thought I'd see whether Risperidone was too. In my opinion, it is activating.

Anyway thanks all of you for your opinions and experiences xx
