Lyme disease is spread by a tick bite. Profuse sweating, upset stomach headaches. There are a good
many symptoms that match up with yours. Passing out is not on the list, but that could be because of blood pressure, stress caused by worry and anxiety. Lyme disease runs a long course. My sister in law had it. She wore some kind of IV medication for a while and it cured her. If the doc is mystified, mention Lyme disease, it may cause him to perform a little more diagnostic work but at least it can be rule it out anyway

I doubt its Lyme disease as I don't live in an area with ticks.. middle of London!!

Could be CO poisoning as we do have a Gas boiler with a pilot light which heats our water and radiators. But husband has no symptoms though he is out during the day. No hdeadache though.

And mono.. hmm.. thats a good thought. I don't have swollen glands in my neck, which was what showed I had it when I was 15, and then I was sleeping 18-20 hours a day.

I think the fact that my husband just won't take me seriously isn't helping.. he tells e its because I am a "lazy cow" (his words) and the fact I stay in bed too late during the day thats causing it all. And that I'm acting stupid by not eating and bringing it on myself... he won't realise that I *can't* eat as I feel too sick to do so.. its not like I have a eating disorder history - quite the opposite infact, food is my first love!!!

Will let you know how I get on with gp tomorrow morning.

There was an article in the Good Housekeeping about Lyme disease where it went into the brain then the patient had severe psychiatric symptoms. I thought Lyme when you described the symptoms.

Yeah, I suppose you would have noticed. Oh well. That was the main time I had that problem with smell. Oh, and when I was on Effexor was it? something like that.

May be Reboxetine-related... NikkiT2

In reply to Starting to worry about myself, posted by NikkiT2 on October 21, 2003, at 8:16:45

Sounds like it may be Reboxetine-related. I had similar symptoms on two meds, once with Wellbutrin and the other with high dose Effexor. (About 450mg XR) It (Reboxetine) is also a Norepinephrine reuptake blocker, and my doctor and pdoc said those symptoms where related to the Norepinephrine effects. What worked excellent to reverse it all was an anti-nausea med (called Gravol in Canada and Dramamine in the U.S.) and a benzo (any should do.) . You may either do better starting with a smaller dose, or may have to try another med.

Best,
Jay

Hi Jay,

this has been going on for 3 weeks longer than I have been on reboxetine though.. Thats why I am sure its not med related.

And theres no more meds for me to try now.. reboxetine is my last chance!

Thanks though

You have tried the mighty MAOIs, esp Nardil? I'm a fan of Nardil actually! (like you didn't know that!)

You poor thing! I don't really know what to tell you as far as advice, maybe see a neurologist. Hopefully your GP will have some answers for you. I really hope everything turns out well for you. Bless you, Elle

Not tried MAOI's, but I'm not willing to either.. My diet is such that it really wouldn'd work with MAOI's, (lots of soy and mature cheese).. and My psych agree's with me too.. Plus he won't prescribe me anything that is too dangerous in overdose.

Well, she's not sure whats going on either.. My blood pressure was slightly down, my temperature is ok, glands in my neck ok, and she couldn't feel anthing wrong with my stomach.

She did a pregnancy test - negative (phew!!), and my urine sugars were a little out, but she that is probably because I am barely eating.

She took a load of blood (5 vials!) and said they'd be checking for lots of stuff.. I have to go back next tuesday for the results.

In the mean time she has given me some Lasoprazole (30mg) incase its a gastro problem, and some Prochlorperazine for the nausea.

So we'll see what the blood show up I guess.

Thanks all

Thank you for posting the update. I am thinking of you and hoping you get to the bottom of this quickly and feel better soon.
Try and eat a little something - small amounts, frequent timing. I think that would make you feel a bit better, can't run on no fuel.

Nikki, I'm so glad your gp is taking your problems seriously. Hopefully the bloodwork will turn up something easily correctable. And I forgot to mention it yesterday, but can I give your husband a verbal lashing? What a mean thing to say!

Let us know what they find out, and I hope you feel better soon. And eat what you can. I stick to bread and pudding when I'm not feeling well.

I've just eaten a whole head of steamed broccoli!! *l* My doc said to eat what ever I fancy, but I wandered round supermarket looking for stuff but the smells and everything were too much for me, so once my prescription was ready I left!
Had to cook my husband dinner, and when I steamed his broccoli I just had a real fancy for it *lol* So ate it all!

I'm also going to drink some milk, as I htink that would be good for me.. Not feeling as nauseas though which is good, but still very dizzy headed.. It feels like sea sickness actually!

Thanks for the thoughts.. you really are a special woman Dinah

Reboxetine ca be good, but not alone...no way!
Max I can say is you add an SSRI or even best Effexor beggining 75mg/day an rise more fast you can, depending in your side effects. Do you know what you read in inser papers? no more than 225mg of XR and 300 mg of the normal.(I think is this). But you could rise as much as 400mg of SR(I already saw pDocs prescribing 600mg). In the beggining of treathment take some ritalin, about 40 mg, and as you go rising the effexor, reduce thr ritalin till stop it. About reboxetine, if the side effects are getting too strong, go lowering it as necessary. And if someday you beggin to feel a little bad, change rebox to bupropion till 300mg, than low the effexor a little, if necessary, go on Lamictal... Talk with you med!!! say you are tired of this mycroscopic dosages of AD-s. You want a strong and efficient result. The ritalin will make you fine till effexor hit his point.
Whel, it is just my thoughts to you stand up and grow up some inches!!!! LETS GO!!!

it sounds like liver inflammation which can occur due to a number of different things: meds, virus. All the symptoms you are having: sweating, nausea, taste & smell of things having that kind of effect. Is your urine dark/smelly?
I agree you should get some blood tests to look for this.

Hi,

I won't touch SSRI's as I've had bad reactions to them all.. and now way am I ever going through Effexor withdrawal ever again..

If bupropion is Wellbrutin, it can't be prescribed as anti depressent in UK.

And geting ritalin would be like getting blood out of a stone over here!! *l*

But like I said, as this has been going on since before I started reboxetine, I'm pretty sure its not s/e for that.

Thanks

Nikki

i'm sorry to say this, but i really think Jay's right. i think it's probably Reboxetine related-- at least that's probably the best and most logical explanation. Excessive norepinephrine activity can cause most if not all the symptoms you described. i'm sorry. Good luck with everything though.

Good luck,

Hi Ace,

I came off it in August.. had been on it about 2 years (with a 6 week break a year ago).. and was on 5mg and came straight off from that.

Only real problem was the rebound insomnia.. Was a bit of a nightmare.. but I found some stong allergy tablets that by taking double dose of, I slept better.. but they did leave bad hang over.. so doc prescribed me some Zopiclone which was wonderful.. clear deep sleep with clear head and energy the next morning.

Good luck if you're doing it.. I'd get some decent sleepers before you start if insomnia is hard for you to deal with.

So.. if it was reboxetine related, why did it start 3 weeks BEFORE I started the reboxetine???

I'm getting bored of pointing that fact out!
