Parnate and yeast extract

Posted by christineb on October 17, 2002, at 20:18:54

I've been on Parnate 50mg for a couple of months and feel great. I have stopped using my anxiety medication. I don't know about insomnia because I take Ambien to sleep at night, although I have had a couple of nights when I wake up every hour.

I have been experimenting with food. I had Indian food last night and no problems. I don't know if I ate fava beans or not, but I know I ate lentils and curry. I can eat jack cheese and mozarella, but haven't tried cheddar. My doc says I should be okay if I eat the "cheap" cheddar. I wonder about yeast extract because I use soups to cook casseroles and such. I also like packaged rice but have found these items with no yeast extract at Trader Joe's.

I seem to have lost my sex drive, unlike some people on Parnate, and wonder if it is due to the Risperdal I take.

I'd like to know if anyone has experience eating cheddar cheese and yeast extract. Thanks, christine

Cheddar cheese (any aged cheese) and yeast extracts are definite no-no's. If you put "MAOI diet" in the search area of this site you'll find threads that go on for months giving you detailed info.
Good Luck
