I was only on effexor xr 75mg for a week, but i did have an upset stomach!
I really didn't like effexor there were way too many side effects and i felt completely out of it, like i wasn't here. I think the doctor gave too high a dose to start with. I've heard lots of good things about it though, so good luck and i hope things keep getting better !

Hi angell,
I was on effexor 225mg for 18 months or so. I had extreme anxiety at the time and assumed the pains in my stomach were due to that. Turns out it was the effexor giving me stomach ache every day. Constipation was real bad too. Can't really remember if the A/D effect of effexor increased with time but unfortunately for me the side-effects did not subside.

I'm also on effexor, have been for the past year. What I find with this medication is that it is really important to take it at regularly, same time dosage etc. The side effects slowly went away for myself, except for the slowing down of my gut.
Playing around with my diet has helped this. Eating apples and other high fibre foods helps, but try really gasy ones in small amounts because they may cause pain. Drinking lots of water won't hurt. I found myself craving coffee and if I was strong enough to substitute a glass of water instead it helps.
I would like to add that I had tried many different types of ADs before I found one that worked for me. If you find that it is helping despite the side effects talk to the prescribing doctor he may be able to help you with them. (Not likely, but no harm in asking.)
BEST WISHES

I don't think I had any significant weight gain from the effexor and figured it all had to do with ones diet and activity levels until I went on mirapex. I gained ten pounds in one month and all around my waist! I look like a beach ball with a little tennis ball for a head.
Try adding an apple a day and let me know if this helps any. Zantac has really helped me with heartburn which I've had pre-effexor.
Glad to hear that it is helping! Maybe a pharmascist can also help with the belly-aches.
Iniatilly it did make me tired but once I got over 150mg the tiredness from the med was gone. I hate to comment on drowsiness from a med because fatigue is my main problem so its hard to say what's me and what's medication.
Keep in touch, and come chat over on the social board!
