Homeopathy: The Ultimate Fake
Stephen Barrett, M.D.
Homeopathic "remedies" enjoy a unique status in the health marketplace: They are the only category of quack products legally marketable as drugs. This situation is the result of two circumstances. First, the 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, which was shepherded through Congress by a homeopathic physician who was a senator, recognizes as drugs all substances included in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States. Second, the FDA has not held homeopathic products to the same standards as other drugs. Today they are marketed in health-food stores, in pharmacies, in practitioner offices, by multilevel distributors [A], through the mail, and on the Internet.> If you want to know some thing we have recently discovered that has been around since 2000 years ago, and used to treat depression, bi-polar, and anxiety, e-mail me immediately. No prescription needed, so save your money.

I'm just exposing your Quackery so that you don't hurt anyone here. I'm tired of Quacks like you preying on us. Yes we are vulnerable...And you vultures know it...
Thank G-d I'm getting proper treatment and I know how to deal with Quacks like you. Cease from posting here or I will report this to the proper agencies whether Dr. Bob chooses to banish you or not.

Oh and here's another portion of the article that "Dr." Andrews would not like you to see...
The "Remedies" Are Placebos
Homeopathic products are made from minerals, botanical substances, and several other sources. If the original substance is soluble, one part is diluted with either nine or ninety-nine parts of distilled water and/or alcohol and shaken vigorously (succussed); if insoluble, it is finely ground and pulverized in similar proportions with powdered lactose (milk sugar). One part of the diluted medicine is then further diluted, and the process is repeated until the desired concentration is reached. Dilutions of 1 to 10 are designated by the Roman numeral X (1X = 1/10, 3X = 1/1,000, 6X = 1/1,000,000). Similarly, dilutions of 1 to 100 are designated by the Roman numeral C (1C = 1/100, 3C = 1/1,000,000, and so on). Most remedies today range from 6X to 30X, but products of 30C or more are marketed.A 30X dilution means that the original substance has been diluted 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times. Assuming that a cubic centimeter of water contains 15 drops, this number is greater than the number of drops of water that would fill a container more than 50 times the size of the Earth. Imagine placing a drop of red dye into such a container so that it disperses evenly. Homeopathy's "law of infinitesimals" is the equivalent of saying that any drop of water subsequently removed from that container will possess an essence of redness. Robert L. Park, Ph.D., a prominent physicist who is executive director of The American Physical Society, has noted that since the least amount of a substance in a solution is one molecule, a 30C solution would have to have at least one molecule of the original substance dissolved in a minimum of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 molecules of water. This would require a container more than 30 billion times the size of the Earth.
Oscillococcinum, a 200C product "for the relief of colds and flu-like symptoms," involves "dilutions" that are even more far-fetched. Its "active ingredient" is prepared by incubating small amounts of a freshly killed duck's liver and heart for 40 days. The resultant solution is then filtered, freeze-dried, rehydrated, repeatedly diluted, and impregnated into sugar granules. If a single molecule of the duck's heart or liver were to survive the dilution, its concentration would be 1 in 100200. This huge number, which has 400 zeroes, is vastly greater than the estimated number of molecules in the universe (about one googol, which is a 1 followed by 100 zeroes). In its February 17, 1997, issue, U.S. News & World Report noted that only one duck per year is needed to manufacture the product, which had total sales of $20 million in 1996. The magazine dubbed that unlucky bird "the $20-million duck."
.....
Dr. Park has noted that to expect to get even one molecule of the "medicinal" substance allegedly present in 30X pills, it would be necessary to take some two billion of them, which would total about a thousand tons of lactose plus whatever impurities the lactose contained.

Frankly, homeopathic medicine can be markedly effective -- I've used it, for example, for dental pain and on a serious burn with immediate relief.
Forget the idea that homeopathy is per se quackery, and focus upon the offensive way in which this "doctor" posted his secretive little lure on a board like this.
We don't need no steenkin' come ons.
Besides, if homeopathy worked for our kinds of problems, the world would certainly know it by now!

Zo,
Yeah, I guess I'm a bit confrontational.... *blush* I just get so offended that people would come into a safe place like this and hawk their "cure of the day."
I love this place. I've finally found a place where I can get support for my depression and for my therapy. I just get really protective of places I find so useful.
My tactics may be crude. I hope that Dr. Bob deletes the entire thing. We don't need anyone hawking anything in here. I'm here for support. I know you are too.

I was taking Effexor XR, after my dad died for almost a year. I was up to 300mg a day. I became pregnant while on Effexor and I chose to wean quick off Effexor. So, I went from 300mg to 150mg after four days, then to 75mg, and after four days, 37.5. I was not depressed but my body reacted badly, involuntary jerking, profuse sweating and bizzarre dreams and if I would walk to the kitchen or in the store I would be sweating and shaking.
It was not because I felt nervous ,it was my body withdrawling. I lost the Baby.
After the loss of my baby, I was more depressed, but more determined to have a baby.
Sorry, if Iam boring the "gang".
I started taking this drink, it stopped my jerking, sweating and I could see clearer than ever before. I took an ounce under my tongue and held it there for 60 seconds than swallow. I took another ounce mid day and worked up to 4 ounces a day. I did that four 4 weeks until my dreams, sweating and shaking stopped completely.
Then, I just took 2oz. in the morning for energy, I lost my craving for coffee completely and I loved coffee,
I found myself craving lots of water(the good things). I waited a month to make sure the tranquility was REAL. Then, I tried to get pregnant again and I did. I kept drinking the juice throughout my pregnancy and by my 36th weekI was already almost 3cm dialted. The doctor told me to come back when I felt the labor pains coming on, which would have been almost anyday. A week went by and at my next doctor's apt. I was 8cm dialated and did not have any pains previous, then she(doctor) kept me in the hospital, broke my water and without any pain medicine the baby was shooting out 15 min. later. I felt everything and I was so happy my baby was completely healthy in and out. I started nursing when I became engorged with milk, the lady that was helping me, heated the same juice I was drinking everyday and soaked two big wash cloths in it to put on each breast, within an hour my milk let down and I had so much I pumped out and froze my extra milk.
I worked with Le Leche League(nursing advocates) and told other women about my experience with depression and nursing and how healthy and smart and tall my 6 yr old is. He had bronchitis one time and I gave him oune of juice with water and soaked cloths to put on his chest and back. He started coughing up gren purulent phlem, it was so much! I kept giving him fluids and sips of that juice. The next day he was fine ,no cough,no antibiotics, but he had a huge appetite.
I just wanted to share that with you guys and I certainly did not mean to get the Lab where I work run through the mud, especially, when we are top notch research scientists developing new medicines. You do also need to realize a lot of or pharmaceutical medicines are alkaloids or extracts from plants. That is why everybody is worried about our rain forrests and want to save them.
I am very sorry I interfered with the gang here.I just wanted to share my blessing of my experience with others who might of lost a baby while on SSRI'S OR SSNRI'S like Effexor.

is much broader. Also vaccinations are not dilute, they are altered versions of pathogens.Allergy shots do start with a dilute solution but work up in concentration. The "theory of likes"
goes the other way, dilute to very dilute.james

Well, you're lucky placebo works so well for you. BTW, homeopathy is not herbal medicine as you seem to imply. The claims made by herbal medicine manufacturers are unproven but have the merit of being plausible, unlike homoepathy which is physically impossible (physically as in physics: the science that studies the laws of the universe). When a substance is diluted to such an extent that not one single molecule of it can be present in each and every pill marketed, and yet claims are still made that the substance is present, that doesn't just go against Avogadro's Law, that's a plain lie. You may or may not believe herbal remedies work, it is unproven but possible (although if they were truly psycho-active, they would probably be controlled by the FDA or the DEA like say, marijuana, coca, opium... have you heard of these particular herbal meds). But homeopathy is just like buying a sugar pill even though it may be a great and very effective placebo for you.

Gldngodess,
Sorry that I was so abrupt and confrontational. I just thought you were yet another "doctor" selling something. Now I understand that you are one of us and that you were merely trying to show us something that helped you....
1000 apologies... *blush*
I've tried all sorts of remedies in the past too. I've tried faith healing, crystals, smudging, and other sundry "healing" techniques. I can say that at least for the crystals I have some beautiful rocks to show for the money I spent, so I don't regret that one.
What seems to help me most at the moment is Celexa and Wellbutrin. It ain't perfect, but it's been the best bet so far.
I'm sorry to hear about your baby. Effexor sucks that way... I've read.

While I accept your warning, I don't think I jumped to this conclusion. A ruse is a ruse.

I read where people were soaking tea leaves or marijuana and cigerettes in "embalming fliud" and they call it "wet" or "illie".
Those people start having auditory, visual and tactile hallucinations. They say it gives you the same thing as pcp and pcp is mixed with it sometime. Some people just soak electrical tape in the fluid and sell it.The people almost die everytime they smoke it and they like the feeling of that. They get naked, and start thinking people are out to get them and try to kill themself.
Has anyone everdid that on here and survived to tell their experience and please also say why you did it.
Were you scared did you hallucinate? It's supposed to be popular now;to have pcp mixed with marijuana now.
I heard one guy on here say he smoked pot as I was reading.I am glad I can't be around smoke I have asthma.
I am so afraid what my kids might be offered when they get older.
They even said to be careful around here the elementary schools because older kids were giving out superhero looking stamps coated with LSD, and they were telling the kids, they were tattoos, to lick and stick on their skin. Can you imagine the evilness out there?
LSD too, I have read can give you flashbacks.
3 kids died over here in florida because some kid found and gave out some pretty blue rocks and they sucked on them and died, it was rat poison.
Does that make anyone else worry, sometimes I feel like I have to save the world because no one has faith in God anymore? I am narcissistic and dominant natured. Is that an OCD? Or something else worse. I dont go thru rituals like OCD's. My mind did race more before.
I have never been diagnosed, so what does this panel think about my condition, at least I am honest with myself. I control many things at work and home...but I don't believe I am god. I thought I was going be a nun at one point in my life to help people, but I like make-up and being pretty too, so that was out. I do think I am always right and people say I usually am. I am female.
any suggestions? please help!
