Yes it is good, but it is from a Julian Barnes book I have to say.

The US is different, but I wonder even there if there is that old certainty that existed before the C19. It is one of the best things about novels, how they can explore, over time, the painful passing of old certainties that go with modernisation. At the moment I am thinking of Orhan Pamuk and Victor Serge.
