hmmm... Yes I think the word sounds kind of harsh, not sure why-maybe because it's a shorter word-perhaps more likely to be used when referring to someone or a group of people in a derogatory or dismissive fashion. I don't use the word, I always say "jewish person", but I never really thought about it. I'm not jewish, but I have the same sensitivity. It even bothers me when jewish people use the word "jew". Go figure.
