Didn't someone here mention testosterone for men to help address the dysphoria that comes from low testosterone? I guess estrogens would be similar for women.

Check out allopregnanolone. I guess you can call it a type of hormone treatment. allogregnanolone is a relative and precursor of progesterone, and can act as a neurosteroid. Actually, progesterone by itself can be depressogenic. The new Sage compounds, the first of which (brexanolone), was approved by the FDA to treat postpartum depression. It has to be given i.v. All three allopregnanolone analogs are actually a type of progestogen neurosteroid. They act as positive allosteric modulators that amplify the signaling of GABA-A receptors. I guess you could call it an indirect agonist. The next of the series scheduled to be approved is zuranolone. Unlike brexanolone, zuranolone is taken orally. Sage is trying to get zuranolone approved for Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Depression, and Postpartum Depression. These are indeed novel.

Some see things as they are and ask why.
I dream of things that never were and ask why not.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
