I won't go near 400 mg/day. I can't remember my own name when I do. For me, 300 mg/day is much better. I does not produce significant cognitive or memory impairments. In fact, because these impairments are integral parts of my illness, the improvement in my condition afforded me by lamotrigine actually improves them.

I would not controvert your doctor's instructions in this case. Either take lamotrigine twice a day as he directed or ask him to prescribe Lamictal XR for once-a-day administration.
