Does anybody remember The Electric Light Orchestra's "Livin Thing". The refrain goes:

It's a livin thing
It's a terrible thing to lose
It's a givin thing
It's a terrible thing to lose

Omar Kayam's immortal lines from the Rubaiyat, which is recommended reading for a depressed person. He really puts things in perspective. This sample from the Edward FitzGerald translation of I889 (still the best).

Here with a Loaf of Bread beneath the Bough,
A Flask of Wine, a Book of Verse -- and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness --
And Wilderness is Paradise now.
