Has anyone taken prochlorperazine?

Posted by Quintal on September 20, 2008, at 7:14:22

I'm looking for experiences. There are times when my mind just won't switch off at night and benzos don't work. I've found Zyprexa is a perfect dimmer switch, and helps me cut down on thoughts generally. Unfortunately it has a very long half life and leaves me feeling sedated and clumsy all the next day. It also makes me forgetful. If only it came in a six hour release version!

Seroquel might fit the bill having all those mood brightening properties built in, so I've left word to ask my pdoc to consider it when he gets back from his break. From what I remember it was sedating like no other substance I've taken. It tended to cause oversleeping. I'm prepared to be realistic and accept that anything powerful enough to knock me out when in one of those states will cause some hangover the next morning, but I'm looking to minimize that as much as possible. This is what attracts me to procholrperazine. The half life is about right so I think it's worth a try. It's not something I would want to take on a daily basis though. I'm just looking for something to fill that gap. Can anyone who has taken both compare them?

I have an old packet of Buccastem prescribed for my mother ten years ago. I'm not quite sure whether it's safe or not, but I want to give it a test run before asking my pdoc for it. Any thoughts? The tablets are in blister strips and have been kept in a cool, dry place. I haven't got one out and smelled it yet, but otherwise they look in good condition.
