Lyrica withdrawal v. benzo withdrawal

In response to Phillipa's message about the addictive potential and withdrawal issues with Lyrica--here are my two cents. I added Lyrica to a regimen of Benzos about a year ago and found it incredibly helpful for anxiety at first (even helped to reduce Benzo dosage), and actually found it helpful for depression too at first, though I think it may have made the depression worse in the long term. But although I don't use illicit drugs, I inevitably abuse any prescription drug that is even slightly addictive, and after about 6 months I had to go off of it. For me, cold turkey withdrawal, especially after taking a whole bunch in attempt to achieve the euphoria described in this thread, was definitely uncomfortable--it felt like all my nerve endings were on fire--which I guess makes sense given that it is intended for a particular type of nerve pain. But with a gradual taper of only about 10 days, I actually felt completely fine. And this is coming from someone who has had repeated hellish experiences withdrawing from klonopin and other benzos (including seizures, and ultimately the need to be hospitalized for borderline psychosis), as well as the usual protracted pain of withdrawal from things like paxil and effexor, so I consider myself incredibly sensitive to withdrawal.

There's no question that everybody is different, but if you suspect or find that Lyrica is helpful to you, and you are able to use it without abusing it, I don't think you should be overly concerned about withdrawal--certainly be sure to taper and do so under a doctor's supervision, but I don't think you will experience anything even remotely comparable to benzo withdrawal.
