I just want to second what polarbear wrote... good advice!

My experience with 5HTP is really bad.. just made me more depressed and lethargic. A bettter alternative would be tryptophan.

If you easily get stressed tryptophan, taurine and fish oil may be helpful, although too much fish oil can cause insomnia.
