In my case, I stayed at 10 mg lexapro and didn't need to go up and up. I am also on something else (remeron) and haven't increased that either.
The good thing for you is, you have this clear point of when things went wrong, and it seems directly related to your physical problem and/or its treatment.
You didn't mention if your problem also involved getting surgery, so I guess that wasn't the case? The reason I ask is, going under anesthesia can make some people depressed afterwards. I forget where I read that.
I do know people who went on ADs for a year or so and went off, and they are doing fine now.
