Iv been on remeron 30mg for depression, anxiety and insomnia. For me, overall, this med is the most effective for all 3. What i mean its like this drug helps with all 3. Side effects at first are next day sedation, esp on waking up, increased appetite due to the seraton receptor blockade 5ht3.
If you still have anxiety/panic, have your doc add some xanax .5mg once or twice a day.
My moods are up and down, although my major depression is wiped out. its sorta like levels you out, but doesnt make you happy go lucky.
I believe sleep is the best improvement on remeron. I dream every night, due to the fact remeron increases rem sleep. Iv been on and off remeron for the past year. When i stop it, 2 days later, i feel the anxiety, depression and poor sleep return.
An alternative would be taking ambien, more xanax, and an ssri like zoloft. But thats 3 meds. Remeron is like 3 meds in one.

Note: 15mg dosage is most sedating. 45mg is least sedating, more for depression.
