Dear Judy,

Thanks for ferreting out another investigational drug for us.

Ziprazidone (Zeldox) is supposed to be approved for marketing imminently. It is very much like a Zyprexa, more so than aripiprizole, but without weight gain. After reading some of the few abstracts available on Medline about aripiprazole, I would not expect it to be much of an adjunct for depression (simplistic guess), but it makes for a novel way to approach schizophrenia as it acts as an agonist at presynaptic dopamine autoreceptors in addition to the usual antagonism of postsynaptic receptors.

Where were you able to find out about aripiprizole? Do you have any good resources that provide information about investigational drugs?

Thanks again.

- Scott

> I had a huge weight gain on zyprexa, apprently it is considered the worse offender of the group. On risperdal, I may have gained a few pounds initially (it's hard to tell when your on multiple drugs/offenders)but it tends to level out- I think zyprexa is more of an exponential weight gain. Hope you find something you can live with. Bristol-Myers Squibb is running clinical trials on a variant of zyprexa that has no weight gain. It is called aripiprazole. I called them and got the name of local clinic doing the trials but it involves a 24 day hospital stay and they use a placebo (which is why you are probably hospitalized) That is not for me, but maybe others are interested. Take care- Judy
