things are shifting

AUT is coming under fire for sexual harrassment / abuse of power.

A constant string of allegations that haven't been investigated by the University.

Intentionally doing business with companies (particularly law firms, it turns out) known to take advantage of female interns, particularly.

Of course it turns out that Waikato simply denies that there have been any allegations against staff in the specified time period. Because they are so corrupt they don't even record how many allegations they refuse to investigate.

As something of a... Counter...
?
The media starts up with the (boring, yawn) stories about the incompetent and inept and asleep at the wheel people who have been employed to turn a blind eye to all kinds of corrupt practices in the name of various 'watchdog' agencies.

You know...

'Fair go' -- spends 15 years chasing a guy before he's imprisoned. That's... Effectual. Huh.

'Consumer' -- tells people to haggle haggle haggle becuase the price for you may be better than the price for others if only you are smarter than others. I'm sure the same applies to things like having your visa renewed or getting yoru thesis done...

I got a letter back from the law society saying that they weren't going to do anything about a lawyer delaying telling me for several months that he was conflicted on a case.

I think it was setting things up in a way that was helpful for an appeal.

It wasn't just that he delayed telling me for several months that he was conflicted on a case... It was that he refused to accept my construal of the case (that the issue was teh University refusing to follow regulations) and instead insisted on construing the case as me basically being upset that I didn't get the outcome I wanted / thought I was entitled to.

Either...

Either he genuinely or legitimately can't tell the difference between taking issue with the University refusing to follow their regulations and being upset that one doesn't get ones way... In which case he's incompetent...

Or he intentionally tried to stabotage the case.

That is to say he intentionally tried to construe it so that he thought it wouldn't be won. Then he wanted to tell legal aid that he he thought it couldn't be won in the hope that legal aid for hte case would be declined. So then I wouldn't get legal help in filing the case. So then it would be more likely tha tthe case wouldn't be filed. Or it would be more likely that the case would be filed at poorer quality than it would if a lawyer was involved in filing it.

Which is...

An obstruction of justice.

Surely.

Surely that's not cool.

What thing in particular are you referring to?

Cases and protests and so on in Texas??

Or something else?

You are in Texas -- right?

My nephew is in Texas, presently. Texas Tech. But I haven't heard how things are for him, over there, for a few months.

there are resitrctions, you cannot go places without wearing a mask, everywhere. You have social distincing, around 6 feet. The convtervery, i don't wnat to write it in spacfic, but read on whats going on the US. There could very well, but anoither major contagion again later on this year. I have ever, seen anything like this before. We in history right now.

I just sit and read the news by myself, and watch abc nightly news, fox news. Thinking what i can do with life, maybe help. I would have to make major adjustments, medication, I would have to rely on nicotine lozenges if i ever started. But anyways, it's pretty bad, there's business that have been shut down, there are totally new regulations. Real ID is going to made.

So, don't know whats going where you are, but yes im around dallas, texas. shut down beaches, movie theatres, many things

we living a new history timeline

>So, don't know whats going where you are,

In Australia we are very fortunate overall. There has recently been an unexpected outbreak around Melbourne, some hundreds of infections.

It is horrible to think of people without money but with school age children being sent to their apartments to isolate. South America sounds dreadful in this way.

It feels surreal, doesn't it?

Like being part of a movie where you wake up one day and all the people have gone. Disappeared. Been beamed up. Taken away.

Yeah, I can't imagine being in one of those confined apartment spaces with no balcony and small kids. Or teenagers.

People's supply of drugs being cut off all of a sudden. Alcohol restriction.

People flipping out.

It feels surreal...

Things are certainly shifting.

yeah. and devices to keep kids quiet. computers or i-pads or smart-phones.

teachers in NZ have been saying for a while, now, that kids show up at school with American accents because of all the time they spend listening to it on the televison or youtube or twitch or... whatever it is the kids are doing these days...

education, too. in the search for quality contents.

but the lack of sunlight / a natural source of vitamin d.

the lack of exercise. walking. standing.

i don't know how people coped without being able to sit outside / on a balcony. without being able to walk outside for exercise. without having a spin cycle or treadmill or exercise reigime to do at home.

it's spreading, the US is being hit hard, its surreal everywhere you go..you have to wear a mask, its regulation, to prevent contagion COID-19 thing.

It may be peacful for a while outside US, but it may come very soon if more outbreaks happen. The death toll in US is high

>it may come very soon

The statistics I read for Delhi were not reassuring.

From antibody testing there, a big proportion (40 percent?) had already been infected. (Which might mean?)

It's bad enough in Victoria, but that is 'only' 400 new cases daily.

it's worse the more crowded people are.

i think they were anti-masks because of surveillance technology not being able to do face identification when people wear face-masks.

but that problem got solved.

then there were problems with contact-tracing. proximity detection. people who live in high-rises who may have public hallways beneath them or over them or next to them within 2 meters -- but they have no contact with those people. e.g., i live over a fairly high traffic access way and so many many people pass within 2 meters of my phone even though i am not in coughing / sneezing / breathing proximity of them. in very dense settings they thought there would be too many false hits on proximity based contract tracing to be useful...

it's spreading... almost a sort of a cultural colonisation about it.

i don't know that it is right to be talking about 'second waves' when places haven't experienced a first wave, yet.

i think melbourne is getting it's first wave only now. before... wasn't a wave. was some clusters. but not really a wave of community transmission...

they aren't sure whether being infected with it conferrs immunity with respect to subsequent infections. either because it mutates over time so immunity isn't long-lasting or... well... i guess that's it, really.

but, yeah. i know it's only a matter of time before new zealand does get it's first wave. it will decimate our health system.

before...

before all this i applied for jobs. i applied for jobs as a healthcare assistant and also as a sterile supply technition (autoclave etc surgical equipment). apparently these are bottom of the food chain positions. i said i was willing to be humble and work my way up... they werent' interested. not interested. nada. a person with a clean criminal history and an MA. they weren't interested.

now i get an email asking if i still want to do it.

yeah, right.

i think they can pay me. it's the only language they understand. they think i'm stupid because i didn't grubbity grub grub at the money. finish up the qualifications as fast as i could for the higher paying jobs that the qualifications are supposed to provide you. but instead i went 'if i did a PhD in New Zealand what would I learn?? there isn't anyone in the country who I want to learn from... I would simply be left to my own devices and be in charge of myself because there isn't anyone to teach me anything anymore...'

And so the students pretend to learn and the teachers pretend to teach and everybody knows that the only difference is who has the pieces of paper with the qualifications and the dollar signs...

They don't understand why I didn't go for PhD as soon as I was eligible to apply for that and bite my lip and do whatever i was told and get through it as quickly as possible and apply for jobs in university administration.

it doens't matter what the degree is, you see. you can do agriculture or community mental health nursing and get to be vice chancellor. it's just about grubbing the PhD as quick as you can and focusing on grub grub grubbing your way up the payscales.

Clearly. What it is that they do. Clearly that's the only legitimate or viable path in life.

________________

The health system will be decimated, here, once it gets here.

We've had so much time to prepare. To stockpile equipment. To fit test masks. To buy hand-sanitiser.

To train staff.

they can pay me for delaying my graduation for 7 years which cuts 7 years off the end of my working life.

they can pay me an average consultants salary for every year they delay me.

they can pay me.

any time they are ready to let me get going on year two, year three, year four -- now i spend some time on the wards, year five -- now i spend some time on the wards, year six -- now i spend more time helping on the wards, and then they sign off on my degree. and then i can start a specialist training post overseas... or they can pay me to work as a junior doctor. and i work the hours i'm paid to work and no more because screw ACC overseas will sue us if we won't do these things here, ourselves, then overseas will sue us for violating health and safety laws and so on and so forth... and they can pay me.

and every year they delay my progression... they can pay me.

and if they just want to keep throwing away money by delay delay delay then they can pay me.

apparently it's only $50,000 for a degree from Harvard. an undergraduate degree. New Zealand has invoiced me more than $100,000 for a degrees that they pretend don't even exist anymore because they are too corrupt to even acknowledge degrees they themselves conferred.

they can pay me.
