I handed in my first assignment yesterday!

So it is done now. My citations are not flawless but supposedly my text is very good. The reader can find everything but i think i did some things in an "unorthodox" way. The book they gave us was about the "Chicago" citation style but then we were supposed to do "APA" in the Assignment. But i should pass. The grade will be just for reference but we do need to pass it in order to proceed.

Congrats!! Well done!!

It takes courage to hand in an assignment / assessment. Good on you for getting it done.

Different subjects can have different referencing systems. Sometimes the same subject can have different referencing systems e.g., for different journals.

I find the easiest way to get my references in order is to copy or mimic. What I mean to say is to find an example of an article that uses the system I am supposed to use (hopefully one that refereneces a variety of things like a book or an articles with one or many authors) and then I can imitate it much easier.

I just mean to say that it's pretty hard work getting lost in the freaking APA style-guide.

Psychology sometimes loses it's head up it's *rs* with new style guides published seemingly every year.

I think doi numbers are supposed to help with that. Hypertext permanent links, or something.

It is easier when you are writing for a particular journal because every article in that journal is an example for you to mimic.

It is harder, often, to do what lecturers / graders want. Most especially when they don't understand the *point* of referencing. Or that the point is to 1) Provide enough information so the reader can find your reference / check up on it as painlessly as possible and 2) To have a consistent style with that largely for aesthetic but also for ease of making sure you have all the information and the informational bits in expected places.

I got a B for my "scientific" paper. I hope to be able to follow up with a good test result in march. Topic: German grammar. I now get how some learners of German get frustrated. End then I will take a test on economics and then FINALLY the first English test. That's why I signed up in the first place. I didn't expect to have to do so much in german.

But that's the foundation for what's to follow, I'm afraid.
