When did psychobabble die?

How recently was this website quite active? Where did folks go? Hopefully they got better. How did users find this site originally?

i'm not sure about statistics when it decline, it was in early 2010s...., but when i first came to this board there way alot of posters, the mid 2000s i found babble in 2003 through google, was in high school and looking for help on asking about adhd medicine and a place to talk too during my teen years.....basically what happened was social media, networks started....reddit is still a real active posting board, but babble kinda declined so where just left with the main posters we have now

I'm not good with dates. I started reading on the psych board in 2007 and it was very active. Maybe too active to keep up with. Then I started checking in on the meds and social board. A few years later, there was all this craziness. People mad at each other. People mad at Dr. Bob, trolls, etc. A guy named Lou who annoyed everyone, yet never got blocked by Dr. Bob. Gradually, people left. Then the board was shut down for months, maybe even a year. I just assumed that was the end. I randomly checked it a while back and was surprised to find that it was back up again. But by this time, most people had left and never come back.

My guess (only a guess) is that a lot of people have found babble because of searches that lead to the psych board. With the psych board dormant, I doubt babble will attract many new posters.

it was in the early 2010s, 2007-09 was pretty populated, but most of the electricity was in earlier, like around early 2000s and 2005 period, when i first started posting here in 03, there were alot of people who welcomed me and gave advice within a short time frame, this site is kinda old technology that still exists in 2020, all this format is from the 90s

Thanks for the responses. I found this board through a link on the social anxiety support forum while researching for anecdotes of Nardil and MAOIs. I appreciate the simple format of this site and how the users write knowledgeable and articulate posts. There is something about this site that attracted quality contributors and Ive been delving into the archives so often that I wish I could get updates on many of the old posters lives.

LOL--well, you hit the jackpot today! I don't seriously think I'm the jackpot, but I am an "older poster." Which for some reason strikes me as so funny today. I started around PB about '99-2000, very active growing site, some fights, I certainly remember Lou's ramblings, as with any growing thing, changes occurred that some folks had a big problem with and some went to other sites. When my 'tribe' of oldies here really noticeably changed members, it was less interesting to hang out here, and 'new' people developed their own codes, etc., and so I sort of dwindled away. I sure hope the energy here now allows for newbies who are oldies. :) I feel like I should be saying "Get off my lawn!!"

Certainly there were problems when people of different attitudes and beliefs congregated. Many liked the structure while others disliked Bob's attempts to keep the site safe and supportive. In the end, Babble did not implode from it's dysfunctional culture, but rather it sadly succumbed to a burgeoning social media that lured most away.
