Dysfunctional marriage

Posted by former poster on April 28, 2015, at 14:47:40

Should I let my son take my only car? He doesn't have a license or insurance. He has totaled 2 cars. This started a family feud. Why can't I have any input into my kids life. I'm struck down immediately by my overbearing wife.
She uses my mental health history as a lever for argument. Isn't this called abuse? Should I let my kids do anything they want? Is this good parenting? If I say no to anything their mother will side with them just as if she were a a sibling to them.

No license or insurance would mean no driving a car in any responsible household.

I guess if he drove away, you could call the police.
:-(

And no, it's not any way to treat a spouse with mental health issues.
Do you have a therapist to speak with?

I think the definition of "abuse" will vary from person to person. Nevertheless, I would feel humiliated and belittled. That kind of dynamic sabotages one's confidence and self-esteem. Gaslighting? If it were a frequent occurrence, I would call it abuse. It would sure feel that way to me.

I don't have a therapist. My location is rural, there are no large cities. Therapist is something I can't get here. Police are not helpful with this situation because they need to catch them on the road. It's a hopeless spot to be in. I can only comply with my overbearing wife and children. Any time I take a stand it turns into a lynching mob. All I can do is comply.
I mistakenly posted this in psycho babble grief only to find it has been discontinued and my post was forwarded to this forum.
Thanks for your comments..
