Parents on Technology

Posted by Lamdage22 on April 2, 2015, at 12:21:44

My mother is so oblivious to her Mac that it hurts my brain..

It left me speechless trying to get her to do sth via the phone.

It makes me wonder if ishould suggest she either learns how to use it or decide not to use it.

The internet is not without danger.

How old is your mother? What is STH? People are funny about technology. I have one acquaintance in his late 70s and in a very low-tech profession, who has all the latest e-gadgets and Facebook and twitter accounts.

But then I have another friend who shuns technology - has no cell phone or email account, doesn't use the internet - even though her husband is a network engineer. (She's also in a low-tech profession). I keep telling her that this technology actually makes things easier. That it's so easy to learn that a child can use it. That it's become so user-friendly over the years that you can figure out how to work things in minutes. I try to explain how many things you can do and get access to with the internet.

But she responds either by saying that it's too hard to learn or that she doesn't need it and is fine doing things the way she's always done them. Oh well....

As we age we become creatures of habit as neighbors and I have discussed. Although I use the internet the thought of a phone without finger dials I won't use. I also have a facebook account but never have used twitter. I would rather interact face to face. Phillipa
