Shampoo/conditioner, what do you use?

Posted by sleepygirl2 on February 16, 2013, at 23:32:32

I'm wondering if the expensive stuff is worth it.
Any thoughts?

My hair is longer than shoulder length now and I use this and the conditioner that goes with it. There's no expensive shampoo that can touch it IMO.

I guess I just posted my whole goddamn photobucket. Be nice of them to say when they change their way of doing things.

I just saw a tube of shampoo. I do use the expensive stuff. And lots of expensive conditioing products. But I double treat both color and perm so it's important to use good products. Right no using Keratin Complex and keratin infusion. Also a new moisturizing cream morrocan oil. $40 a pop for each item. Phillipa

Awhile back my hair was getting really dry and frizzy. I switched to a low sudsing system from Loreal, their Evercreme system. That helped, but not enough, so I switched again to a cleansing conditioner system, the Wen stuff. It's expensive, but I only need to use it once or twice a week, and it has definitely helped. When I get brave again, I'll try a less expensive cleansing conditioner system to see if it's as good.

For the past 20 years or so I have been exclusively using Paul Mitchell awapuhi shampoo and the leave-in conditioner. Not cheapo but not expensive at all either. Sometimes I will also use the Neutrogena anti-residue formula, maybe twice a month.

Can anyone recommend a good dandruff shampoo? Seems to be a little problem for me right now... herpills

I had a friend in grad school whose father was a chemist for one of those big firms that make shampoo and stuff. He told me, it's all the same stuff. They put different scents in it, put in in different bottles, but whether it costs $3 or $30, it's the same chemical combination.

I've read tons and tons on this topic lol.

It's not necessary to buy the expensive cleansing conditioners like Wen. A normal cheapo conditioner from the dollar store can work as a cleansing conditioner as long as it doesn't have silicones in it. Silicones can be problematic for a lot of people and interferes with the cleansing. There are many different types of silicones. The water soluable kinds are OK for cleansing. I can't remember all the names for them right now, but a Google search should bring some up.

All conditioners have cleansing properties, they're just not as strong as shampoo and you need to really work it into your scalp and massage it well to clean.

Deneb-

True! I have long, straight, fine hair and anything with silicone screws my hair up. The less is more method is best for me and I color my hair.

I like Fredric Fekkai hair care. The Oscar Blandi Jasmine line is good, too.

PS: it's kinda fun writing about my hair and not my head for a change ;/.
