oh no - possible grossness and creepy triggers

Posted by Dory on October 7, 2007, at 10:01:19

i found a flea.

i am fastidious and paranoid about fleas.

i flea comb the dogs and inspect them constantly.

i discovered that a high quality homemade diet seemed to mean they never got fleas. i found one two years ago. i have not bought flea stuff in four years.

i know anyone can pick up a random flea.. on your pant leg... from the grass.. from a passing pet

but i found a flea.

in my house

it's a holiday and i can't rush out and buy flea-nuclear-bomb stuff

i really am paranoid about them

i am imagining them everywhere. every little speck gets investigated. i feel them crawling on me.. in my hair..

i need to put an allergy-anti-crawly cover on my mattress.

i need to disinfect

oh my god.. i forgot.. fleas can carry worms.. even tape worms

oh no

don't i have enough to deal with? why does the universe hate me so?

i am petrified of spiders but i would rather have found a tarantula.. at least they are big enough to see easily.. it's hard to hide a tarantula in your bed sheets.. and they are soft-bodied so you could just suck them into a vacuum cleaner or mash them. i don't like to kill anything... but fleas and tarantulas are exceptions.

a flea

my whole thinking mechanism is disturbed and thrown off by a creature barely 3mm long.

a flea... a f*ck*ng flea

what do i do?

I don't know what to do, but this posts creeps me out! Kinda like the thought of lice. When I had my daycare, it freaked me out when a child would itch their head. I was, I sure hope not! But sh*t happens and so does fleas. I hope transulas don't just happen. I don't think I could live on the west coast, I have a major phobia of spiders.

So what is in the dogfood that makes the dog taste less tasty to the fleas? Garlic?

auuggh! I am itching just thinking about it, LOL (nm)

i don't think it's what's *in* the food as much as what *isn't.* i know a whole pet food industry is ready to strike me down, but i honestly think that processed foods make them more susceptible to fleas. i mean, would you feed a kid canned soup everyday for life? Even if it said it had all the nutrients? i won't even start on the fact that they can put cancerous meat and other nasties in there.

i don't often use garlic, but i've been told it is supposed to be good for that. It seemed to not sit well with my two. Poor kids... every time one of the scratches i run over with the flea comb.

i did live on the west coast and i am SO not ok with spiders. i found a black widow behind a speaker... and some horrid huge thing with fangs in the driveway... *shudder.

and no.. generally speaking for this part of the world, tarantulas don't just happen.

Ummm black widows are on the East Coast too as have had a neighbor who left her shoes in the garage put them one and was bitten. There is a toxin but only good once in your life. She managed to endure it and survived. I also do not like spiders. Phillipa

We have black widows here in the Midwest too. Anyone remember the TV movie Kingdom of the Spiders. Spiders creep me out so much, especially walking into a web and the web and spider is stuck on you and you can't get it off. The horror!
I guess the recluse spiders don't even have a web, they just jump and attach! Okay enough of that , I need to get to sleep tonight.

I got bitten by a brown recluse in a yarn store. Oops better tell lurpsie. And I had to take antibiotics and wrap my leg in betadine . If I'd gone to the ER I would have been admitted as they can eat your flesh. For pics google this spider. Phillipa

ummm, no thanks, I will take your word from it. I didn't know knitting could be so dangerous and scary! ;-) How long did take you heal from the bite?

I was extremely lucky a week or two on antibiotics and betadine boy was I faithful to that and thanksfully didn't know how bad the damage could be. Phillipa
