Just wanted to drop a line

Posted by Dinah on July 7, 2005, at 13:36:20

Between sick dogs and creating a library in what would be the dining room in a normal house (grin), and still trying to do *some* work I've been run off my feet. I've tried to Babble, but just stared at the screen in blank incomprehension.

I should be back in few days. Or sooner if my poor feet finally give out long enough to let my brain rest.

I swear I'm seeing aisles and configurations when I close my eyes. It's not easy creating a library in a small dining room sized space.

You know I'm partial to libraries, myself.

hi Dinah,
good luck with the project! I'm sure it will be a great library when you're done. I have a small library in my house for my huge book collection, and even that was no small feat to put together. Lots of work! Also I hate the fact that books get dusty....so annoying. Naturally we did not spring for glass-door cases that might stop the dust (can anyone afford that???) but I can see how those would be GREAT to cut down on housekeeping!

Maybe you should have decided to turn the bathroom into a library, most husbands seem to be quite talented at that.

Booo!
Bad joke.

Good luck Dinah Dear.

I've dreamed of living in a library...sigh (nm)

Dinah,

I hope you're dogs feel better very soon. Tell them Mabel sends virtual doggie treats ;).

I'd give anything to have a library. I'll never forget a house I was in that had a huge two-story room lined with bookshelves that went to the ceiling. They had a great sound system installed and I loved their choice of music. Sigh...the only people in my ex's family that I really liked. I kinda miss them.

Sorry, I digress.

Good luck with your library! Let us know how it turns out.

Take care,
Laurie

Ah, I wish it were that elegant. Instead I'll be lucky to be able to squeeze a folding stepstool between shelves. :) Every inch floor to ceiling is utilized, though. I must confess that. No glass fronts. I'm afraid we wouldn't have room to open them, even if we could afford them. lol.

We will do a room filter to try to get some of the dust out.

We have sort of a library now, but it's only part of a room and it doubles as an area to hold "stuff". Life being what it is, it ends up having so much "stuff" that we can't get to the books. This will be no more area in the new setup, but there is going to be a "no stuff" rule.

Plus my inlaws might be coming to stay for a few days. I'll find out today.

One's doing better. One is still very ill. She's been giving my adrenaline a workout with her heart condition. She seems to be more stable right now than she has been in the last week or two, when she's been in and out of the hospital every few days. I don't think we'll have her (Harry's daughter) with us all that long.

I'm not sure about the other one either. Her condition isn't life threatening, just very painful, and she can't take the medication she needs because it's making her sick. So... I'm not sure quite what to do. I'm hoping they can come up with something where she's not in pain.

I've still got three ranging from 13-15, as well as three youngsters. So I guess I can expect expensive vet bills and lots of adrenaline surges. :(

Well, it's quite a challenge, since it's in our very small dining room. But we should be able to reach the books, and there should be sufficient room to read the titles. They'll still be two deep. I don't know if I can ask for more. :)

My husband and I are both book collectors and have an unfortunate habit of picking out too many books at library sales and the like. We've forbidden ourselves from going to any more. :)

I used to volunteeer at a library and I would always scan the discard shelves for good buys. Then there was the book club I belonged to. Now my husband is the big-time book buyer in the house. I'm going to have to take away his credit card so he can't patronize Amazon anymore. Needless to say, we have a lot of bookshelves.

I.

i wish there was an easy answer to your situation with the dogs, we both know there isn't. Try to rein in that adrenaline!

I'd love to have a library! I have hundreds of books at home and hundreds of books at work, and they're completely disorganised. Maybe when the kids leave home (in 20 years...)

I'm sorry to hear your dogs aren't well. That must be stressful. And a potential in-law visit as well. You've got a lot on your plate at the moment.

Let us know how you're doing from time to time, if you get a chance.

I'm so jealous I could spit -- A library?! Hey, another one of my kids is moving out this year. But I think my husband has dibs on his room -- it is a conspiracy against me, they want a pool table!

But...the way I see it, if they are occupied, I get to read in peace. So it is a fair trade.

I'm glad you are doing OK. I was looking for you over on psychological. You can ignore me now. :)

Dinah,

We had a library of sorts in our dining room and that was in an apartment. Do two huge bookcases crammed with books count? There was still space (sort of) for a table, chairs, and formal tea table. It looked beautiful.

Then, we moved and all our books are now in storage. We too both love books! :-)

Hi Dinah,
I'm jealous of your library. Maybe some day when we refinish the basement we can have a library too. Or at least one place to keep all of our books.

Glad to hear from you.
