Introduction

Posted by yaya on January 19, 2003, at 10:58:41

Good morning, folks. I'm new to this group -- I stumbled across it while trying to research some of the various medications I take -- and I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm a 40-something stay-at-home mom (disabled) and I suffer from various medical problems. I'm on a slew of medications and have been trying to find the right combination for the last couple of years. I'm menopausal now, I think, which is really proving to be a challenge and I'm feeling really frustrated these days. I'm experiencing every emotion possible for humans on a daily basis and sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy.

There are so many posts here, I can't read through them all. I don't know how I'll keep up, but you all seem so very nice and supportive, I thought I'd jump in and see how I do.

Welcome!

Hey Yaya,
Welcome to the group. I'm sure you'll find lots of support here from people that can truly empathize with you. I know that even though I have support from friends and family, there's nothing quite like learning from others that have had so many similar experiences, or at least know adversity of some sort!

Aw, you're not going that crazy...if you were then you wouldn't know it! :D

Feel free to share whatever you feel comfortable sharing. And even if you choose not to post, you'll probably soon begin to feel right at home here.

Nice to meet ya!
Karen

Hi,

I just read your post and thought I'd welcome you, too. There are a lot of great people and I hope the postings will bring you a bit of solace like they do for me and many others.

Glad you joined us! Yes, the volume can sometimes be overwhelming, but you'll figure out what you want to read and what not. My advice? At the moment there are a couple of "arguments" going on on some of the PB boards--just ignore them. Most of the threads are peaceful.

If you don't feel crazy in this world sometimes, you're nuts!!
Welcome aboard, by your history, I'm pretty much your male eqivalent. Does that make sense? No? Good, you'll be fine.

Hi Yaya, Welcome.

My "Bible" through menopause (I'm 55 & 3 years period-free) was "Menopausal Years - The Wise Woman Way - alternative approaches for women 30-90" by Susun S. Weed. Ash Tree Publishing ISBN 9614620-4-3

It is the most amazing book. Susun spent 3 years talking with more than 10,000 women about their menopause. The book begins before menopause, when women are starting to notice this & that & wonder "is this the start of menopause?" For each 'symptom', she offers 6 steps for you to choose from. These are: Step 1 - Collect information (she gives information to make the 'symptom' easier to understand)
Step 2 - Engage the energy - visualizing, writing, yoga & various other ideas
Step 3 - Nourish & tonify (with herbs & various other methods)
Step 4 - Sedate/Stimulate - herbal tinctures; massage, etc.
Step 5a - use supplements
Step 5b - use drugs
Step 6 - Break & enter - she discusses various tests, hormonal therapies, operations generally offered by regular doctors.

She discusses each step & offers suggestions that have worked for the women she's interviewed.

It was truly my bible during menopause, which, by-the-way is not necessarily a horrendous experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome again, yaya. warm thoughts, Kath

Welcome yaya. Jump right in and don't worry about keeping up. Read a few threads every day, and after awhile dip into the archives. In time you will feel like you know everyone here. There is a discipline here that feels good once you get used to it.

Thanks for the Warm Welcome
