I just do not know...

Posted by thelongsidewalk on November 20, 2018, at 19:01:05

Hi all! I am new here.. well not really i was here years back and just came back to start over.

I saw the same therapist for years and he retired :( we worked well together. I now have a new therapist. We shall call him Kimo. haha! I am so utterly attracted to him it drives me crazy. I have never been this way.. How, Why, when will it stop?

Any advice would be grateful!

I guess this is one of the most common questions about therapy and therapists. Transference. You're in this intense (but completely one-sided) emotional relationship with this person who is caring and focused on you. So many people develop all these intense feelings...

Is your attraction physical? Is he same-sex/opposite sex? (Not that it matters - heterosexuals often fall in love with same-sex therapists)?

Can you talk to him about it? It's a painful conversation to have, but if he's a skilled therapist, he should be able to handle it and help you work through your (unreciprocated) feelings. If he can't talk honestly and constructively about it with you and the feeling persists, you might need to find somebody else.

It was not physical at first. My therapist has told me so much about him, i know so much about his life. He is male and I am a female. During the pandemic we started texting everyday and it continued once we went back to normal face to face. He is like my best friend. He talks to me about his issues and i talk about mine. It is super mutal friendship. There lines are so very blurry....
