Fish oil depletes vitamin E!

Posted by Lamdage22 on August 13, 2020, at 10:24:21

I did not know this and I have been taking a hefty dose of EPA/DHA.

Vitamin E has saved me!

I would feel worse from the algae oil. Now I take Vitamin E and I am back to normal! The body uses it to stop algae/fish oil from oxidizing. Something to watch out for.

There's this thing about the gamma form.

What do you think?

What about it? I take mixed tocopherols, tocotrienols (about 400ie total) and pure alpha tocopherol (1000 IE). I figure as long as I feel good and have no side effects, it doesn't harm. My blood test won't come in for a while because my doctor is on vacation.

So EPA/DHA should be accompanied by some Vitamin E depending on dosage. And the triglycerid form may be better than the regular form. The more EPA/DHA I took without Vitamin E, the worse I felt.

Where do you get and what brand mixed tocopherols plus tocotrienols?

Only one I could find with all seems to have doses too high, i.e. Total Tocopherols 600 mg (300 mg of this being d-alpha Tocopherol which label notes is 2000% of Daily value!). Mixed Tocotrienols 10 mg.

I take Fish Oil and want to supplement with Vitamin E, but have read excess Vitamin E has lots of cautions (e.g. may increase risk of certain cancers).

I use a product from the netherlands. You wouldn't get it in the US. This may be what you are looking for. https://www.lifeextension.com/vitamins-supplements/item02070/gamma-e-mixed-tocopherols-tocotrienols

One capsule of those is not an overdose.

I take 10g of EPA/DHA. If you take much less, you won't need that much Vitamin E. Don't buy into the fearmongering concerning vitamins. If you dose it reasonably, you should be fine.

Im on these Vitamin E supplements: Complete Vitamin E (natürlich=natural)

4 natürliche Tocopherole
90 mg D-alpha-Tocopherol = RRR-Alpha-Tocopherol (135 IE)
2,8 mg Beta-Tocopherol (2 IE)
90 mg Gamma-Tocopherol (33,5 IE)
33,5 mg Delta-Tocopherol (0,5 IE)

4 natürliche Tocotrienole
18 mg Alpha-Tocotrienol (8,1 IE)
3 mg Beta-Tocotrienol (0,7 IE)
26,3 mg Gamma-Tocotrienol (3 IE)
10,5 mg Delta-Tocotrienol

2 natürliche Pflanzenwirkstoffe
12 mg Squalene
3,8 mg Phytosterole

And:
335.69 mg RRR-alpha-Tocopherol

I can't find a product here (Canada) with less than 268 mg (400 iu) d-Alpha-Tocopherol plus other mixed tocopherols and Tocotrienols.

You are taking a much higher dose of EPA/DHA than I am. I take 2000 mg/day (1500 EPA, 500 DHA). Have never noticed any effect on my mood, but continue it anyway for other health benefits.

Were you advised to take 10g EPA/DHA and have you noticed any effect?

I have read about 10g in the book the mood cure. Yeah, more wellbeing, less food cravings. I take more than 400 Vitamin E because I take such a high dose of EPA/DHA.

Take those anti vitamin studies with a grain of salt. It is in fashion to say that vitamins are harmful.

I could name you several german/european products, but haven't found anything thats available to the us. I guess with vitamins the us thinks more is better (sometimes it is, sometimes it is not).
