Curcumin or CBD interactions with AD's anyone?

Posted by mtom on May 15, 2019, at 12:30:26

I have read that both curcumin (turmeric) and CBD Oil may interact with medications including antidepressants, based on impairing or competing for same liver enzymes (P450's).

My medication protocol has changed, not AD's but now taking another med for other condition, also added Turmeric, CBD Oil (medical prescription brand) and omega-3's about same time - and things have changed, and not for the better.

Anyone have experience?

Also posting to Medications as involves drug interactions.

I suspect it may be the Curcumin interacting. Some evidence of possibility in articles, but mostly gut feel and timing.....

What do you take? It is likely that it raises blood levels of certain medications

I always google the name of the substance with "cyp metabolism" to avoid what happened to you. I have to avoid ginger and curcuma. I would really like to take them but it won't work with my meds.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of research and have been surprised (dismayed) by the number of things that interact with the same CYP enzymes as AD's and other drugs. In addition to supplements, these even include some common foods!

Our CYP metabolism and detoxification system evolved according to what our long-ago ancestors were eating and exposed to in their environment. Adding the extra burden of medications (sometimes multiple), different diet, enviro toxins, changes in gut bacteria, etc., I think overwhelms the system.....

Added to that, Pharmacogenetic testing showed I'm already deficient in some of these enzymes. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.....
