I've read that DHA exerts a more structural effect in its actions, wherase EPA is a more hormonal effect.

DHA feels more like a mood stabilizer to me in how it acts.

What I have found (personally) is that lower doses are better. I don't take multiple grams of it. 500mg of DHA and 500mg of EPA is plenty.

Actually, as mentioned, I respond better to high DHA products.

Lithium works in part by increasing the levels of a DHA metabolite.

Also, DHA can increase the seizure threshold in experimentally induced seizures.

No, I can't say that, but my mood is pretty labile, and small substances etc affect me easily. I started a week ago, a modest dose in the range Link mentioned. It hasn't worsened my mood. I give it to my kid for attention issues and as a mental health prophylactic, given my mood disorder. I'm pretty sure I see a difference in his ability to focus. Thank goodness his dad is stable :)

But what did you mean by 'achieving remission'? I'm thinking in combination with medication.

Felt no difference after taking about 1 g of EPA for 2 months. There's good research on it though, I read on psycheducation that 1 g EPA is probably the most effective dosage based on several studies. Guess it is worth a try.

Omegavia EPA 500 is critical to my regime. Enteric coated. Besides lithium it is the most powerful thing I take. I take 4 grams of EPA a day and if I feel really rough I up it to 6 grams and feel a difference. Problem is that it has made my cholesterol plummet to a dangerous low.

Many people say it does not lower cholesterol! Maybe alot of pharma $$$ go into that.

Its good that you are exploring options, Scott. Fishoil from nordic naturals made me worse, however algae oil does not. Go figure. Its where fish get their DHA/EPA from.

I find myself "dancing" in my car. I enjoy music more.

Sorry for the triple post. I take 1,8g of EPA. Does it kick in more at higher dosages? At what point did you feel the effects? How did you titrate?

Do you just take EPA I hope? DHA depresses me. No less than 4 grams EPA for me. What brand of algae do you use? Spirulina or Blue Green Algae?

No i take 1,4 DHA also. EPA 2 DHA 1 Ratio. I am not sure. it says that they mixed algae to get that particular ratio of EPA/DHA. I dont take the algae themselves, just the oil made from them.

Most algae oils have the ratio EPA 1 DHA 2. It took a long time to find the product i use which is EPA 2 DHA 1.

My Ativan consumption is way down since i take the algae oil! Fish oil made me worse. The algae oil has the 2EPA/1DHA ratio. @mogger: The company does not respond to my requests. Sorry.

Hey Scott,

you may want to try a high dosage. How are you doing on Parnate? Do you need an AP along or do you get by without?

Do you have any side effects? What about the risk of bleeding and thin blood?

Slight thinning of the blood but not much and no other side effects. I have tried many brands and the enteric coated ones are the best and I like omegavia.

Hmm, Scott seems to be absent. I got worse from Nordic Naturals Fish oil. I only tolerate the Algae Oil so far but it is too expensive and it is not concentrated enough! I have ordered your caps and will see what I can do. I also thought to increase Venlafaxine to from 40 to 80.

Also, a dr drew blood and he will speak to me about the results on Wednesday. So I got a few potentially good things coming my way.

I hope I can go back to the gym soon with enough motivation.
