Can we get a better Open?

Posted by gardenergirl on March 16, 2006, at 21:44:23

I know this has come up before. I've enjoyed chatting with folks on Open, but it's just so not worth it when you get booted out repeatedly and it takes so long to get back in. I've gone to just doing conferences in yahoo messenger, which works for the people I'm chatting with, but doesn't allow someone else to easily join the chat.

We really really need a new and improved chat function. Are there any other options?

html chat????

'cause i think it refreshes at a lower rate so it is a little nicer on peoples employers (when they are funding babble access)

:-)

Hey there GG!!

Whats open??? Do people from babble go there and 'chat'??

Anyway, hope you're doing okay. You don't happen to have access to Scientific American do ya? Specifcally 'Sick of Poverty' 2005 Dec 293 (6): 92-9 ??????????????? Author Sapolsky - who's done loads on the link between depression/stress.

No worries if you don't.

Kind regards

Meri

OMG I can't believe this!!
I posted this post about my feelings being hurt by open last night and how it feels so awful to not be able to type, since open sometimes doesnt like to let you type and then it booted me out. Anyway apparently babble didn't like my post either because it never showed up!
Thanks gg for starting this.. Im glad to know Im not the only one this happens too...its hard on the self esteem ;)! Dr. Bob it sounds like a new system is in order, what do you think?

Open is a chat feature through a Yahoo group. You can chat there, but it's really flaky and frustrating for most. And you need a yahoo ID to join the group.

I babblemailed you about the article.

I completely agree! There are other opportunities like a dedicated irc channel. To make it easy on people here, Dr. Bob could create a page where the irc channel is embedded. To me that is the best way to chat because no one has to join anything to sign on. Or of course he could also just set up his own java chat on this site. I just wish something would be done so that we can chat without having to worry about being kicked out or logged off. Just my .02.
