lamictal

i was researching lamotragine, it said it helps siezures, and the lows for depression. I don't know how lamictal keeps depression, it prevents it. One time i was really depressed and took it, 400mg because i missed the dose, it lifted me out of the depression too baseline. I felt this antidepressant effect. Does anyone know more info on lamotragine and bipolar or depressive disorders?

liftst depressive episodes and can work with anti-depressants. I don't know how lamotragine work in the brain, it's an anticonvulant, and reduces over active firing. So that may attribute to it's mood stablizing properties. The only true mood stablizer is lithium. It' old been around for long time, used for depression even before lamotragine came in 1994. But lamictal is better for depression rather than mania. Does anyone know more about this in studies how it works?

I think with psychmeds in gerneral and especially with Lamictal, it is not entirely clear how they work. Does it matter? It seems to help. Ok, MAOI are pretty clear but it gets less clear with others.

lamotragine - i take 200 in early day, then 200 later day, i feel small antidepressant effect, it seems to lift out of depression but tonight i am so dyphoric and in a bad mood. I don't think ever a med can keep your from going into slumps. Lamotragie seems to prevent it from happening, but it still happens but less freqeuntly

I dug up some info

https://go.drugbank.com/drugs/DB00555
"
"Lamotrigine likely acts by inhibiting sodium currents by selective binding to the inactive sodium channel, suppressing the release of the excitatory amino acid, glutamate"

. "In laboratory binding assays, it demonstrates weak inhibitory effect on the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor. Lamotrigine also weakly binds to Adenosine, adrenergic receptors, dopamine D1/D2 receptors, GABA A/B receptors, histamine H1 receptors, κ-opioid receptor (KOR), mACh receptors and serotonin 5-HT2 receptors with an IC50>100 µM. Weak inhibitory effects were observed at sigma opioid receptors.14 An in vivo study revealed evidence that lamotrigine inhibits Cav2.3 (R-type) calcium currents"

in morning i take 400 with prozac, i've been on lamictal since 2012. At first it dulled me out, but mind got adjusted to it. Now if i don't take lamotragine, even below 400mg i get into low states, not real depressed but more like slumps. Then when i take it, it raises me out. It's a good medication, i took it hours ago and im doing fine, have no depressive symptoms right now. Even in depressing places, say like my room with all the lights off, it still keeps me out of depression. If it's real depressing place or situation, i just go into a slump, nto a depression phase

lamotragine is good med, at the dose 400mg it's actually kept me from going into lows or depressive phases. It seems to prevent them, but if i take the 2nd dose, i will notice a stablization and bring me back to normal or antidepressant action. It's not a uplifting effect, but it stablizes nuerons. I thought about taking lithium but i'm not bipolar I

Thats great that you found something so useful! I like Lamictal, because it seems easier on the body than many other meds.

I don't know... it can cause a rash, and it accumulates in the iris.

Wow. There is so much they don't tell you when they place you on this stuff. I knew about the rash, but not about the iris.
