Anyone on longterm stimulants??

Posted by jay2112 on March 17, 2021, at 13:51:52

I was wondering if anyone has and/or is on long-term stimulants, and how it has helped you, or caused any challenges/problems?

Thanks,
Jay

I think your nutrients are messed up. Why not have them checked before you jump into (street)drugs? If you are interested, I can give you a list of what to check, to which the Dr can add of course.

Potent stimulants keep my apathy at bay. A lot more is left to be desired though. Better than nothing at least!

the only 110% functioning adults I can think of, off hand, on long term stimulants take adderall xr, and the dosage seems to trend lower, as they get older.

I take Adderall XR and regular Adderall pretty much as Christ_empowered said, low daily dose for about three years. It helps with fatigue and apathy. My mood stabilizer makes it tolerable. (I have bipolar.)

Why are you thinking about it? I do have ADHD as well, and it helps but is not a cure-all by any means. Hey, help is help, though, right?

I thought Stimulants were the highway to hell... But I guess it is not advised if you are prone to psychosis/anxiety.

dextroamphetamine is good in the start, you feel active, focused, alert. But if you take it too much without breaks, it starts to lower effect and actually reduce productiveness, by wearing down nuerons. If taken daily in morning or afternoon it should not wear you down. I always took benzos after amphetamine wore off, because it made me depressed after all the focus was gone. Dopamine reduction after wear off period. Sometimes i would drink, or have spirits after also

only thing i didnt like about dexedrine was when it wore off, you feel just washed out, i took Dexedrine spansule, it would last exactly 6 hours. Adderall XR lasted 8 hours, adderall seemed more sppeedy because of the levo isomer.

Yeah, thanks, but kinda been there done that. I think I have a really rough variant of BP2/depressive type/possibly crossed with a small variant of borderline personality. My pdoc and I were talking about this.

But the 'trap' is, if I take a vyvanse, I feel kinda good for awhile, then I become emotionally unstable...anger, crying..horrible.

I am semi-ok now on 150mg effexor, 15 mg Nozinan (antipsychotic), and 3mg of clonazepam, and .4mg of clonidine (for eps...I get HORRIBLE akathasia) I am giving time for my body to adjust, and we are going very slow. But I got the luck-of-the-draw with the akathasia, boy!! The WORST feeling in the world.

Yeah, but the after-affects remind of Extacy/Molly. And for a bp2 dx, emotional roller coaster!

It never really was a problem before, with vyvanse, which is quite close to adderall. But, I might consider trying adderall xr again, at a low dose. Thanks..

Yeah...I have Vyvanse, almost identical to Dexidrine, and like all stims, it blows the dopamine, and some norepinephrine and serotonin, right the hell out of your sending receptors into the downstream ones, which feels good at first...and as the sending receptor is depleted, the downstream becomes depleted as well. And that is when you feel like crap. For a bp2'er like me, the initial effect is severe crying/anger. I am going through repeated grief, and it is just not good.

Thanks...
Jay
