I am not taking an MAOI, but if there was an interaction, I think we would know about it by now (given the volume of vaccinations). The response to the vaccine is likely similar to the flu shot. The vaccine does (as far as I am aware) have an affect on serotonin or tyramine.

Serotonin as in taking an SSRI or the serotonin which naturally occurs in your body? Will you get vaccinated? I have an appointment but too little is known of the vaccine and what the long term side effects might be. Probably will cancel it if can't find out more information? Phillipa

Hello. Thanks for the reply. I didnt receive a notification that you had. I think you mean does not contain serotonin or tyramine. Im pretty sure it doesnt and the docs said so.
Would be be great if someone who had the jab was on here. As you say, millions have had it. Im booked in for this Sunday...

I'm a week post my first shot of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine w/o any issues. Not Nardil, but MAOI. I haven't heard of anyone on any psych meds having interactions.

Hope you get vaccinated w/o any issues!

That's great to hear, as you're on an MAOI. I reckon most of the people that are on MAOIs have probably had their first shot by now, as we/they tend to be on them from many years ago. It was just helpful to hear of someone what was on an MAOI that had had it. My first shot is tomorrow! Oxford/Astrazeneca -- I preferred the Pfizer one that my parents had, but I guess they are all very helpful against this horrid pandemic! Thank you

Without hesitation.

What 'long term' side effects are there from any vaccine?

i've read long term use of vaccine can cause discreet illness, but im not gonna throw that parade on this post, but you were talking about long term effects, anti-vaxxer read that it has long term effects that can be developed aftre time. But first thing, that is a theory and can't write on net to discourage people from getting it. Yes it saves lives, defeintly from covid

I second that totally. Nothing is guaranteed on safety but not to take. Well, the world will be a mess for years to come.

Link there are quite a few sites like Nextdoor that I frequent and the leading question is on the vaccines. Maybe fear that there will occur an overactive immune response. Long term side effects also. Example if there is swelling in many females might also be males of the axillary lymph nodes that contraindicate a mammogram for at least 6 weeks after being vaccinated. Does this mean that now the vaccine has entered the lymph system and could it long term say cause cancers or other illnesses? Phillipa

Here is a link from a very long thread on the Covid vaccines. Note that it is from March 2020. Thanks.

Phillipa -- I only asked at the outset if people had received the covid jab, whilst taking an MAOI. I did NOT ask for comments and links about possible long term effects. The fact we take these meds mean many of us are worriers and anxious, so it does not help with you posting all the long term anti vax stuff on here, as I have been trying to not read any of it and worry myself more! I will not read anything else here, as I think you will keep doing it. Please keep your concerns to yourself and choose not to have the jab. Our Queen and prime minister and millions of others have had it plus it plus probably most of the world's population this year, so the world could be in serious problems (as it is now) but a lot worse. Thank you and I'm off to get my jab later today, you haven't helped my anxiety at all

"fear that there will occur an overactive immune response"

People are not dying from the vaccine. They are dying from COVID. They are not having immune reactions to the vaccine, they are having immune reactions to COVID. COVID is not going to magically go away. I don't think you're going to be able to 'wait it out'. 269 million doses of these vaccines have been distributed around the world. Is there a worldwide intergovernmental conspiracy to cover up the side effects? People on Reddit forms are pulling things out of nowhere. For example, where is there ANY research suggesting that the vaccine can cause an autoimmune issue. Yes, it activates your immune system, but so does every bacterial or viral infection you encounter. The immune system is continually being activated by infections, stress etc.

All I hear are unsupported 'suggestions'.

Had first jab. All was totally fine then and now. Appears the second can make you feel a bit rough for 24 hours due to the antibodies from the first jab fighting the second injection. So kind of doing its job but not everyone feels rough and less so if over 75! All better than catching COVID!

Exactly. The laundry list of mental health problems associated with COVID (which would be nasty for somebody with pre-existing issues) is not worth the risk.

Hey guys,

the Germans feel that your risk of serious illness or death is higher if you have severe psych diagnosis. So I may actually be able to get the Vaccine some time soon. I got the Drs note. Are there any interactions to be expected with my cocktail in the signature?

I hear it is just drugs that work on the immune system that might cause interactions.
