I received the Astra-Zeneca version of COVID vaccine within the most recent half hour. It scarcely hurt at all.

Am I the first here?

How does the Astra-Zeneca compare to other vaccines?

They said there will be another shot in 12 weeks.

I hear it provides 70% of protection, on the upside it seems to give that protection to those around you as well possibly unlike Pfizer and Moderna.

Hi Yes you are the first on this thread to receive the Astra Zeneca vaccine. You must be in Europe correct? What type of information have you been given about the vaccine? And what is the criteria for receiving the vaccine. Age like here, a medical worker?, pre-existing conditions. Would love to hear more on your vaccine. 12 weeks is quite a while between doses also. Thanks Phillipa

Lamadge I did not know this about Astra Zeneca. So is it a better vaccine? What is the mechanism of action? Thanks Phillipa

I think maybe that is the reasoning behind choosing this variant. It is in a hospital setting and they really don't want the virus to get a foothold here, as it could spread like a wildfire.

Yes, Nordic.

> What type of information have you been given about the vaccine?

It could case injection site symptoms like muscle pain, and it could cause a temperature.

> And what is the criteria for receiving the vaccine. Age like here, a medical worker?, pre-existing conditions.

None of those would seem to apply. I'm just 43. No diabetes or anything like that, just some mental symptoms, of which I feel only the apathy and cognitive impairment are relevant to my wellbeing and functioning.

> Would love to hear more on your vaccine.

I don't think I have anything more to say. I will try to report if I notice anything new.

> 12 weeks is quite a while between doses also. Thanks Phillipa

Yes, that occurred to me too.

All of them trigger the immune system, Phillipa. That's what makes them effective...

You don't have allergies of the sort I was worried about...

I think there might be something to different strategies...

Rhode Island was saying that not very many have received doses -- but people have received 2 doses. In other words, their aim was to fully immunise a smaller group of people.

Other places... Are thinking more to get everybody that first dose (confers some degree of immunity) before doign the second round.

That might be it...

Alex you are correct my mistake on first comment. Just done in a different mode. As for RI that is a very small state so easier to vaccinate more. Haven't read about the other states and their vaccination rated. So you found that RI has vaccinated more people? Government must have allotted them more doses is my guess before looking into this. Right now due to the weather the snow storms across a good portion of USA quite a few vaccine administrations had to be cancelled. I have a friend that lives in Texas who was supposed to get her second dose tomorrow now has to wait two weeks for the second dose which is not advised but unavoidable. No vaccines are available in the Carolinas right now same reason shipping of the vaccines. Phillipa

> As for RI that is a very small state so easier to vaccinate more.

You would think. That's why it's suprising that they reckon they are not doing very well (per head of population).

They have only a few who have received two doses and a lot of vaccinations in the state -- that are not in the people already.

I think the idea they are conveying... Is that it is easy (easier) to vaccinate some people. People in the board of directors who really want a vaccine. Healthcare workers. These people can be on call. You can say 'hey, got a dose only an hour to expiry -- can you get here in time?'

It's harder to get the doses to the people in the impoverished communities. In the nursing homes. That's what they are saying, anyway. That their focus on equity is slowing the administration of the vaccines / the rollout.

(Rhode Island is a weird state... I suspect strongly that a lot of the people who work in state live out of state and vice versa. I mean to say it's hard to know how many people are getting vaccinated in Boston or Connecticut or wherever rather than needing to be immunised in Rhode Island, even. I guess... That's the thing of ir, really)...

I did hear about bad snow storms and people freezing to death...

Yeah.

Alex, It goes by first those that are older adults and health care workers. Those that want it can get it and already did receive their vaccinations. Each State has different phases which are also changing. Now the teachers want vaccines cause the schools are again open and some beginning to open. But many people do not want to be vaccinated. Right now I am one of them. I do not want any unknown long term side effect drugs in my body. I am following a thread in another spot of people that live in the Carolinas and how they are reacting to the vaccine. Did you know that females are being told to get their yearly mammograms either before a vaccine or to wait 4-6 weeks cause the vaccine causes the lymph nodes under the arm pit to swell. Which is inflammation. I don't like this. So what would you personally do get the vaccines? Or just take your time and see? Even after the vaccines you have to continue to mask and the other precautions. I felt safer before all this vaccination stuff. Phillipa

Pfizer/Biontech is doing very well in Israel. The data seems to suggest that it protects both the vaccinated and those around them. I dont have an english article though.

95,8 % less infections say a reputable german newspaper. Not less disease symptoms, less infections. If you are not infected, I surmise you cant spread the disease, whereas with just symptom repression, you could. My dad gets his first shot on thursday.

Does that mean you can read Hebrew?

I think I had some transient fever the night after my vaccination. I also had slight muscle ache around the injection site.

If I continue to hear good things, I will try to get the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine. They say that people with schizophrenia get it earlier. Now according to my doctor, I have schizo-affective disorder. ?

I might have that too. It covers the bipolar and the psychosis. Otherwise, if I have schizophrenia, I need an additional diagnosis for the bipolar.
