Medication for sensory agitation?

Posted by Prefect on January 18, 2021, at 16:59:04

A lot of my anxiety comes from sensory agitation. I'm losing tolerance for sounds and light, I even find my own voice too loud. Doctors keep putting me on SSRIs which make this issue even worse.

I'm desperate, any help would be appreciated. Alcohol's the only thing that helps. Before you suggest benzos, I live in Canada and it's close to impossible to get doctors to prescribe benzos here.

No real suggestions, but sympathy. I hate how my sensory system is easily overloaded.
Reaching at straws: gabapentin or antihistamines?

gabapentinoids may be of use, because gabapentin and pregabalin are used for overactive nerves, and block or ... reduce pain signals

acutally gabapentinoids (may) be more effective than benzos in treating sensory pain, there prescribed as nerve pain medication, nuerontin yes it used for anxiety i take nuerontin, it...you feel a bit of relaxation but it lacks the potency of benzos, but it's unique in its own way to treat nerve pain. Lyrica is a more potent, and is alot more effective for anxiety. Their design treats diffrent things. Nuerontin is the basic gabapentinoid, there's others like phenibut, lyrica, and some others that are not as popular as those. You may asked your doctor about gabapentin for nerve pain, or sensory issues. It is in catagory to what your describing

ugh. the politics of prescribing. :-(

lyrica? neurontin? i Know...poor man's benzodiazepines. most humane alternatives I could come up with...

except maybe a carefully selected anti-convulsant? like...lamictal, maybe? those are used, now and then, for agitation. lamictal is the least noxious drug in that class I can think of, although Trileptal might be worth it...

if you low dose it. take it from me, too much Trileptal=impaired concentration and low mood, big time.

what I'm afraid will happen is a doctor will try to push an 'atypical' tranquilizer on you. i take one, because I fall into a diagnostic category that generally requires one, but...

ugh. if you can avoid neuroleptics, please do. please.

ssri drugs are still -too popular- for too many people who -do not- derive benefit from them, it seems. i don't get it, honestly.

maybe...well, have you tried buspar? its cheap, generic, been around forever...not so great on its own, but maybe with an antidepressant, it would/could help simmer you down enough to not have such frightening experiences?

and of course...the 'atypicals.' ugh. unless you're at or nearing psychosis, i would seriously advise you to please, please avoid that class of drugs.

ok. sorry about your situation. hope this helps a bit.
