Aspartic Acid

Posted by Lamdage22 on January 17, 2021, at 3:42:17

I hear a lot of mixed things about Aspartic Acid. Raises Testosterone? My blood level came in low. I also heard it can cause neurotoxicity. The level is 0.05 and normal is 0.1-0.4 (mg/dl).

I take low dose Lithium.

I think it's a NMDA-glutamate receptor agonist. There is a NMDA (lack of it) theory of schizophrenia.

Anyway, potent NMDA agonists are "excitotoxic", at least if they cross the blood-brain-barrier.

Why do mention it?

A psychiatrist who put me on lithium once told me to avoid the sweetener aspartame and I thought he did that because it contains aspartic acid? It would destroy the effects of lithium. At least that is how I remember it.

Aspartame breaks into 3 substances: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol.

Never heard about that, and I can't find anything about it on Google, except that there is a lithium supplement in the form of lithium *aspartate*.

Is it worth supplementing? There are few people who know this kind of stuff. I think it is a pity. My psychiatrist thinks all supplements are worthless. But when I asked him about iron deficiency, he said "that is diferrent". I don't think it is. Iron in pills or capsules is a supplement, too.

I need so much less help from the outside since I have been taking them. It can't be a coincidence. I tried getting better before the supplements, too. To no avail.

To little avail. Not screwing around with a ton of meds helped as well.
