Mother trying medical marijuanna

Posted by linkadge on August 27, 2020, at 14:41:28

My mother was diagnosed with bipolar about 30 years ago. However, like myself, the diagnosis has never perfectly fit. She had a bout of stomach flu about 3 weeks ago and has been having difficulty sleeping and staying calm ever since. Due to my success with medical marihuana, she became interested in trying it in recent days. She is 71 years old, with diabetes (and related complications), bipolar (mostly irritability, insomnia).

I gave her a small quantity of 2:1 CBD:THC (1/10 of a gram) and after a few hours she says she is feeling a lot better (less anger, calmer, less stomach pain). I will keep you posted.

That sounds like a miracle. I hope it continues.

Follow up:

My mother slept well after a few nights of little / no sleep. She used about 1/10 of a gram. She said her anxiety was reduced too. Fingers crossed.

It's a strain with about 13% CBD and 5% THC. So far, she says she is feeling better (has been sleeping better). Her mood's have been more stable (she was experiencing either mixed states or severe lability). Her other meds are lithium 450mg, seroquel 50mg and pregabalin.

That sounds like a cool strain. I suppose there is no tendency toward psychosis? Thats what MJ does to me lately. I go completely paranoid. I had way too much last time. It wasn't fun.

We're talking ~ 1/10th of a gram of a 5% THC & 10% CBD strain. There's always a possibility of it triggering something, but based on my response, my mother thought it might be worth trying.

Yeah, I dont think an adult would screw him/herself up by using it responsiblylike that. I too recovered even though I got WAY too much.

It was just very frightening. I had no idea how much non-potheads should take and I hadnt smoked in years.

I wouldn't say I've had a really bad experience as of yet (2 years) of mostly using oils and occasional vaporization. I had some interesting experiences on 'ghost train haze' (~20% THC), where I felt like I was both dead and alive at the same time. It's hard to describe, but it was like everything unimportant in my life (all the useless crap) was shed off of me and when I re-emerged I was seeing thing from a spiritual standpoint. It was scary, but certainly not negative (if that makes any sense).

MJ never did that for me. I have had a spiritual experience on Nardil. Go figure.

For spiritual experiences, in my experience, memantine is the best.

How much memantine? More than I am taking (5mg).

Well, if you take too much, you feel "weird". If you take too little, you notice little or nothing. Increase the dose (or take several smaller doses incrementally) until you feel better or "different". There's no guarantee it works for everyone.

My mother subjectively (and objectively) is still doing better. Her mood 'swings' (perhaps lability) have decreased quite a bit. Her anger has dropped (i.e. not lashing out at the dog). Her sleep has improved and she says she is having less anxiety around people. Fingers crossed that this will continue. She is also taking 450mg of lithium (lower dose for diminished kidney function), seroquel 50mg, and lyrica (for diabetic neuropathy). She is 71 years old. She is taking a product called Orellium (13% CBD and 7% THC).

Memantine contains an element of Amantadine, no? I'd like to try Memantine.....................but, Memantine is not covered by my drug plan, Does Memantine act similar?

It is a methylated analogue of amantadine, yes. A synonym for it is dimethyl-amantadine.

Similar to what? Amantadine? In research, they have both been found to block NMDA-glutamate receptors; memantine is stronger. This is the same mechanism of action as ketamine.
