My eczema mirrors my mood / relapse

Posted by linkadge on November 10, 2020, at 20:30:29

I had mentioned in the summer that a growing rash on my legs was finally diagnosed as eczema. I shared some (nasty) pictures that showed it completely coving my legs. Anyhow, it has essentially disappeared (a few patches returning from time to time).

Anyhow, I have had a few mood relapses in this time (lasting a few days to a week or so). Each relapse is accompanied by a flare up in my eczema.

It is interesting (and somewhat satisfying) to see something external (tangible) mirror my moods.

Has a dermatologist ever examined it in person? I ask as wasn't it only seen online then during the worst of Covid with the lock downs? I keep getting a similar rash with bumps and tiny scabs on my back near scapula? One neighbor thought could be shingles although from the pictures I've seen it doesn't look like this to me. But before your erupts does it tingle itch? Phillipa

It is interesting, and makes perfect logical sense, that our physical symptoms mirror our "internal weather". If you stress a rat out enough, in a cage, it will chew it's own tail off. When I am stressed, I get huge rashes, with lots of torturing itching. My body feels like it is going to burst. Oh, and headaches.

I haven't had an in-person appointment (on account of COVID). However, the diagnosis of eczema does seem to make sense now. It is itchy but not painful. From my understanding, shingles is very painful.

I just notice that on days where my mood is worse, I do seem to experience more itching and redness.

It's interesting, because my mood relapses haven't been accompanied by increased stress. However, I think there are (perhaps) fluctuations in my immune system which are causing both.

Link aren't cases down now where you live? I still feel you should seek an impatient appointment. Docs here are seeing patients in person and cases are rising fast here. Phillip

My allergies used to get quite a bit worse during stressful periods. Then I did neurofeedback. Since then, my allergies have been much better, even during stressful periods.

Cases, unfortunately, have started to rise again. They're thinking about doing another lockdown.

It's frustrating, because while the cases are up, the fatalities have not seen a similar spike.

I had no idea it's not publicized here just that borders closed from the USA. So you are saying that this time people are not as sick? And the hospitalizations & deaths are lower? I did google images of eczema and found there are I think was 5 different types. Some for infants only but images for the others were good. Phillipa

Hospitalizations and deaths are down from their spring peak, but they are rising again.

The cases look a lot worse than the deaths, but there is some concern about capacity in certain hospitals.

That's the concern here also. And then the seasonal flu. Do you get flu vaccinations yearly? I don't or haven't thoughts? Phillipa

Yeah, there have been shortages of the flu vaccine here in Ontario. You need an appointment, and there is usually a wait.
