Nardil Replacement Failure, Gastric Surgery

Posted by PCB on September 10, 2020, at 21:06:12

I took one last chance to get off Nardil because the weight gain is causing hip arthritis, elevated BP and elevate sugar soon, I thought if I quit my stressful job and got out of my stressful city, my depression would be better. Those things did not help. My last idea was trying effexor and Deplin, and without a stressful job and city, it might work. My depression is the same and I really doubt effexor/Deplin will work in light that the job, city change did not help.

So I guess its back to Nardil, a hip replacement, high blood pressure and diabetes. I am shocked that my over 30 different medications trials, ECT, TMS, psychotherapy, exercise, etc .... only Nardil works. I am not ungrateful, but am shocked Nardil is causing more medical problems that are not my fault. Im sure people look at me and say I must be unhealthy with my weight .... but I actually starve myself daily to keep my weight as low as possible. So sad

Hi PCB😉
I hope others can help you with the side effects of Nardil
Knowing that weight gain is a big one.
Unfortunately adding meds that might help with Nardil are not sanctioned and limit treatment options.
I agree that the limitations on treatment is the worst
Limitation of Nardil. I have ADD but can never treat it effectively because of most doctors reluctance to try stimulants along with it. Im on Ritalin but a very low dose(5mg) and only the immediate release med. Too risky for
a longer acting stun although others here say they take Vyvanase etc.
What is the best way to get your doc to prescribed drugs contraindicated with MAOa?
PCB...Have you decided to abort your trial of a new replacement med for Nardil?

I would investigate topiramate for the blood sugar and weight issues.
Its helped me in the past with appetite from antidepressants. Supposedly it helps with insulin sensitivity as well.
cinnamon, vitamin D3 and chromium picolinate can help a little with blood sugar.

I'm not sure if metformin is an option. It can help with medication induced weight gain. I know some doctors who use it with antipsychotics with prediabetes.

oh yeah theres side effects. tingling / numbness in random places for a little bit. maybe some coordination and cognitive issues depending on dose.
50mg and I get decent appetite reduction but I have problems with word finding all the time. its irritating. But the depression medications all seem to cause weight gain.

What were you taking the topomax with? Did you find any emotional benefit from taking it?

topiramate with several SSRIs over the years.
I didnt have any emotional benefits on it. Ive tried a couple AED's and they dont do anything for me since im unipolar.

Apparently there is a warning for anticholinergic interaction with topiramate + MAOIs. The warning was about hyperthermia I think.
I only needed 25-50mg for an appetite effect. might be below the threshold needed to be a problem?
