Naltroxene and other psych meds?

Posted by halo_there on June 30, 2020, at 11:47:18

Hi all,
Question... I have multiple diagnosis... depression, OCD, etc... and have a polypharmacy going with Effexor, Topamax, Trazodone, etc... I also have issues with substance abuse that have escalated, and am thinking that I may need to look at medication assisted treatment options. I was thinking about discussing Naltroxene with my doctor, but I am worried because I've read that it can amp up anxiety and increase OCD symptoms... I really don't need that in my life. I was hoping to try to try that along with some addiction help (eg 12 step programs) to see if I can get myself on track. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Many people who take naltrexone (50 mg and higher) stop taking it pretty soon because it worsens their depression and anxiety. Low-dose naltrexone, or LDN (4.5 mg and lower) might be a better option for you. Here's some information about it:

The beta-blocker pindolol might help with your substance abuse:

NAC might help to treat addictions and OCD. It's best to take it on an empty stomach.

I recall that in powder form (which is the cheapest), NAC is not very palatable.
