TMS side effects last weeks????

Posted by PCB on June 14, 2020, at 8:46:38

So after one week of TMS, my some of my depression returned. It has been 5 days since the last treatment and I feel 25% better (can watch TV, but no appetite, no libdo, no concentration to read, sleep all day)

Some claim TMS improved depression for up to a year (but more typically 6 weeks). Do anyone think my side effects will last 6 week or up to a year???

PS This TMS is not to be taken lightly. The doc told me it was impossible for TMS to be giving me side effects at one week and that I *had* to continue. The two techs who talk and administer the TMS to all patients said the opposite. They said about 50% of patient have a dip in mood. Sounds like the doc is not to in touch with possible side effects, especially if they can last several months ... this should be told to patients before TMS

Hmm.

You definitely can get side effects right away. However, I wouldn't think they will last more than a few weeks (perhaps 2).

The brain wants to maintain homeostasis. So, it will fight harder against side effects than the main effect.

Let us know how it goes. I can't say for sure.

Yes. This has been the bane of my existence - the likely reason for my failure to maintain a response to my previous treatments.

You might find this detailed account of johnLA's experience with Deep TMS helpful:

Thanks so much. I will read it again. But johnLA is one of few people on babble who has gotten TMS. I wonder why so few here at babble have gotten TMS since many of us are TRD.

I think the high price of TMS keeps a lot of people from trying it. johnLA's Deep TMS treatment was covered by his insurer, fortunately. When alpha-synchronized TMS becomes available, I think a lot more people will be interested in trying it. People who have tried alpha-synchronized TMS, and have also tried rTMS, say that alpha-synchronized TMS is much more effective.

Hmm, I think most people are wary of it. It sounds kind of strange. Not everything you can physically do to your head will help you. Have there been studies that demonstrated safety and efficiency? As much as for meds? Even then, sometimes meds are neither safe nor efficient although they have gone through that.

And the price! For that money you can do other stuff that will help you more in my opinion.
