Can 225 Lithium Carbonate cause low T3?

Posted by Lamdage22 on May 28, 2020, at 7:26:52

Hey guys, I am taking 225 Lithium Carbonate mainly for anti suicidal effects. Can this cause low T3? Because I seem to have low T3. I guess i could cut Lithium in half without losing efficiency!

Also, can it affect Testosterone? (nm)

Lithium can lower thyroid, although usually at much higher doses. It could also lower testosterone (perhaps by lowering dopamine).

Yeah, I take a lot of Dopamine lowering stuff. And Metformin can lower Testosterone, too. However, i never had low Testosterone either way. This year it seems lowish. In february it was low but still normal and now in April it was real low. However, blood was drawn on the 6th floor of a building and I have fear of heights. I was real scared when they drew the blood. So maybe that was the culprit. I think it doesn't hurt to lower the Lithium though, if I can retain the effects. Also, I am lowering Seroquel every couple of months.

I'm not sure how the test works (i.e. if it would notice rapid fluctuations depending on mood / anxiety. However, it is possible.

I've heard in some cases metformin can increase testosterone (i.e. if it helps the patient lose weight and increase insulin sensitivity). When your blood sugar is out of whack it can mess with everything.

I had normal testosterone in 2016. It sounds like something may be wrong with me. I mean not just my Testosterone level. Usually it doesn't drop that drastically.

Any major changes to weight or medications?

If there was a major change, there might be some fluctuations with the test. Just start eating more red meat and watching porn (if you're not already). Hunting or watching more mixed martial arts might help too. If that doesn't work, get a motorcycle or a jackhammer (to do some random jack hammering). That should fix you up.

Kidding aside, you could get a 2nd test. Testosterone supplementation might be an option, or you might wait it out to see how things change over time.

I need to watch some episodes of Home Improvement and buy some big machines:)
No changes to meds. I added 75mg of Trazodone in summer of 2016, in Spring of 2017, I still had good Testosterone levels.

Dietary changes: I took 10g of EPA/DHA and reduced it to 5g. I suspect that the 10g helped me lose weight, so I got back on 10g as of yesterday.
I added Monk Fruit as a sweetener.

I will try to get another Testosterone test ASAP.
