Klonopin causing Ed or as

Posted by Sebastian Howard on April 25, 2020, at 3:12:03

Ive been prescribed klonopin at 1 mg a day (though I only take it when needed) and have noticed problems with getting or keeping an erection. Now to clarify I can still get up and masturbate and such so its not full on Ed but Im 24 and I dont just get erections without trying or wake up with a hard on or have wet dreams or anything. I actually have to like play with myself and focus on like sexual things and such to be able to masturbate. Is this normal and Im just too worried about (with regards to medication in general) or should I try to changing to something else for my anxiety stemming from ocd? Ive heard on an older board talking about this, about Xanax xr or something like that but person never replied as to the effectiveness of it.

I meant sd not as phone autocorrected sd as in sexual dysfunction.

Yes, benzodiazepines can cause erectile dysfunction. If you have a harder time getting hard (pun not intended) relative to what you did before starting the drug, it is likely a side-effect. That said, it is normal to have to fantasise about sexual stuff to get an erection.

What symptoms are you intending to treat with the drug?

Have you tried any SSRIs or antipsychotics?

I was on Luvox originally but that made me really weird and probably made my ocd worse. I was given an antipsychotic once and it just gave me all these weird side effects (hungry af for example but didnt want to eat anything) and after that I was on Zoloft for a while like 2 years or so but I started to wean myself off because the dosage I was at (I think 200 or 300) was giving me really bad side effects ala I had even worse Ed, dry mouth, hurt my stomach if I hadnt eaten or eaten something among other things and just put me in a weird head space. It would also energize my brain really hard to where I was hyper af for hours and then would crash. Ive also tried Effexor which makes me feel like Im on speed or something.

Maybe Nardil (phenelzine) could be an alternative?

You could also see if alprazolam (Xanax) suits you better than clonazepam (Klonopin).
